How do I downsample 48kHz/24 bit files?

Posted by: Kevin-W on 09 May 2012

Hi all

Sorry for appearing dense (I mostly listen to vinyl and am a complete streaming virgin), but I have some 48kHz/24 bit FLAC files that I wish to burn to CD. Converting from FLAC to AIFF is easy, but how on earth do I get the files in a state where they can be burned onto a red book CD (I guess I'm right in presuming a 48kHz CD can't be played on a normal CD player?

Thanks!

your itunes must be able to downsample it on the fly to redbook spec wav.  that is, the software you use to burn the CD will most likely throw 16/44 on it.

Use dBPoweramp, it comes with DSP functions that will allow you to resample and also to reduce bit-depth.

It also has a CD rip function. Once downsampled you just drag the individual files into the Ripping window and then burn a CD. Very easy to create playlist CD's

Thanks Aleg and Geoff - does dBPoweramp work for for OSX Snow Leopard? Couldn't seem to find a version... (or am I just being thick?)

No, dBPA is only for windows

XLD is the one for Mac! It can also convert sample rate and bitdepth

Look for the gui version
