NDX showing fault 28

Posted by: Kaver on 11 May 2012

Hi,

I got my NDX a few days ago and have been using it with a connected pc with J-River installed and using n-stream on an Ipad to control the music stored on the pc.

On the Ipad I chose a track which is not playable by the NDX as its from a one-file cd rip consisting of a cue file and a flac file with the cue-file containing the cd track info (since the J River pc software is acting as server the cue-file track information is shown in n-stream as different tracks).

Since I chose the track the NDX is showing fault 28 (and Bridgeco boot fail). I have reset the factory settings, etc. but without any luck. Do you think a reinstall of the 3.13 software would help or do you have any other ideas?

Have you done a search ? I'm sure this has come up before.

yes, I have. But the only things I have seen is deliver the unit back to Naim for a repair.. I certainly hope this is not necessary having just gotten the unit.

That happened to me. You will have to send it back for repair.

thanks for the reply. As this seemed to have happened after a simple interaction between my pc and the ndx (as stated I chose a track which is not a "real" track as it information from a cue file) I am very surprised that this should be necessary. Did you try to reinstall the software on the ndx?

Hi Kaver, I wish I could tell you that everything will be fine, but I can't. The card in your NDX has broken and will need to be replaced. I tried all sorts to re-boot then phoned Naim support - who told me to return it via my dealer. Mine was about a month old when it happened.

You hope that when you buy a £3k bit of kit that it will last a while. Having said that I had it back within 10 days.

Sorry,

Huw

Hi HuwJ

Very strange I would have thought its just a simple software problem, I can use the digitalt inputs if I when I turn it on quickly swith to another input than the upnp input. Anyway thanks a lot for your very quick response.

I could do the same. I think it was the network card that was causing a problem but USB was not working either.

One final question, did you also reinstall the software on the machine?

I tried to install new software, but that's not possible since it can't find the network adress, so as you said it must go back to Naim after two days of use.

by the way Huw, does your NDX include the FM/DAB module? mine does.

Posted on: 11 May 2012 by HuwJ

No, I do not have the FM/DAB card in mine.

Sorry to hear your bad news HuwJ.

Bit of a long story but I happen to be on my second ndx and have had no problems with either of them.

If i were in your shoes i would ask to borrow mydealers demo model whilst the ndx is away being repaired.

Hi Ray,

The error does seem to be rare. I might be able to borrow a different streamer from the dealer.
