Even Naim's own update disc won't update Unitiserve to 1.6c

Posted by: The Meerkat on 12 May 2012

After exhausting all attempt to update my Unitiserve SSD to 1.6c, using my own iso burnt image disc, I contacted Naim. They sent me out their very own update disc. I inserted the disc into the Unitiserve and after about 12-15 seconds it ejected it. After after approximately 20 minutes I switched the unit to shutdown, then to off. Switched it back on. The interface on the browser still shows 1.6b, as does n-serve. (I don't have DTC, as I am a Mac user)

On checking the contents of Naim's own update disc, it shows exactly the same folders and zip folders that I had on my own disc, which means that I was burning the disc correctly in the first place.

If Naim's very own update disc won't work, then I may have to assume the Unitiserve is faulty. Unless of course, anyone has any other suggestions? Phil, if you're looking in, can you help?

Thank you

David

Hi Allen

Just ripped two CDs perfectly, without any errors.

It shouldn't make any difference, but on my hdd uServe there was no need to shut down and restart manually; the system restarted itself after a while. I don't know how long -- I wasn't watching closely.

Good luck with your troubles

Hi David

What are the files on the Naim disc. I would like to check the disc I have burnt.

You should wait for more than 20 min. On some updates we have had to wait for almost 1 Hour. It depends on how full the disk is and how big the database is.

I can log in to your network remotely if you wish and take a look at your serve to see what's going on...

Please contact me by email at phil.harris@naimnet.com ...

Hi Philip

The folders on the disc are 'Desktop Client', 'Manuals' and 'Upgrade'. If you click on Upgrade it should show 5 zip folders. This is what's displayed on the disc that I burnt, and is identical to the Naim Update disc.

It would appear that my unit may have a software issue. However, that is still to be confirmed.

Hi david

Thanks for the file information. My  burnt disc contains these files. I have now used this disc and the update process worked exactly as stated in the Naim instructions.  My US has now been updated.

The US took about a minute to read the disc and then eject it. It then took about 10 minutes to install the update. I did connect my US to a monitor which was very helpfull and does give confidence while carrying out the operation. This disc I used was burnt at only. 16x. Which could possibly make a difference. Might just be worth a try. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me what improvements this upgrade brings ? After reading the threads I haven't bothered with the upgrade, my US works perfectly, but if someone could explain the upgrade I might change my mind.  There are no Naim dealers in the country I live in (nearest one 1 hour flight away) so I tend to be a bit cautious when meddling with Naim kit.

HI,

There are no new features, unlesss you have the new 2 tb versions, wich already comes with 1,6 C I suppose. If you have not encountered problems with 1.6 B you will not gain anything by upgrading.

On the other hand for most users upgrades works with no problems as long as you can burn the iso image to a cd.
