Does anybody know of a decent iPod repairer?

My 80Gb Classic hard disk has decided to retire .
So does anyone know of a reliable service in either Worcestershire/Herefordshire or around Barrow-in-Furness?
Thanks,
Jono
I know this not any use to you, but we have a local computer store/repairers that do iThing repairs , use Apple bits . Maybe something similar around your local.
I'm sure the interweb will give you feedback on them.
ipodrepairdoctor.co.uk has been recommended on here in the past. I've not used it myself though.
Thanks, checking it now.
The iPod will bootup into disk mode but I cannot reset it!

you might want to try a few attempts at resetting it. My venerable 20GB iPod had similar symptoms, but now it is fine.

I spent most of last night doing just that, to avail
The battery is flat now so a recharge and another go is on the cards.

Jono,
There are lots of tutorials on u tube for repairing the various types of iPods. With the "sad face" icon, I have found that simply opening up the unit, disconnecting and then reconnecting the hard drive often gets it going again. Failing that buying and fitting a replacement hard drive is not that difficult, nor is replacing the battery. From my experience the classic's are easier to repair than the smaller iPods due to the size of my fingers and my diminishing eyesight. Repair agents often seem to charge at a level that it makes it almost as cheap to buy a new one, so what have you got to lose with a little DIY effort? Getting the case open is usually the hardest bit, but you can get tools for that as well.

Nic,
It looks very straight forward so nothing to lose! I crack it open on the weekend and see it that helps.
Thanks,
