Windows 7 - No Disc Image Burner

Posted by: thebigfredc on 04 June 2012

Good morning

Yesterday, I thought I would take advantage of the wet weekend bank holiday and upgrade my unitiserve from 1.6b to c.

Armed with a couple of new cdrs and knowledge from previous threads on this subject, I managed to download and extract the iso file to my desktop but when I right clicked on it there was nothing in the drop down menu related to burning.

Later I was able to burn the file via my computer and windows explorer but the disc didn't work in  my unitiserve, I suspect because I had created a data cd and not a disc image.

Of course the irony is that i got the unitiserve so as not to have to faff about with computers in relation to listening to music in the first place.

I know there are some switched on people on the forum, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, I am out for the day so won't be able to reply to any questions until later.

I cannot remember how Windows 7 hhandles burning of images, but I am almost sure that you just click on the file and then you will start a burning wizzard.

There's many free ISO burners - try googling, however I would do the 30 day trial thing with Nero, burn the ISO, then delete Nero.  Good luck!.

I just tried with my own update image, and I get the Windows cannot find any program error. But if I then choose select a program from a list, the only choice here is the windows image  writer software. The text is not exactly correct since I am running a Danish version of win 7.

Thanks for the quick replies fellas.

Think I will take George's advice and try the trial version of Nero and have another go tonight.

Hi fellas

Successfully upgraded at last.

Wasn't easy though for an IT ****wit such as myself.

Downloaded Nero - couldn't get it to work so deleted that programme.

Then last night I  tried Alegs recommended free Programme which actually worked but I didn't realise at the time.

Not to be deterred though and infused with bulldog spirit that is pervading the UK at themoment, I revisited windows 7 and somehow found the default programm whereby I saw the burn disc image utility.

Five minutes later and I had in my possession a correctly burned disc. Before I put it into the unitiserve though, I thought it may be a good idea to open the WDC and was suprised to find the firmware already at 1.6c. Thumbing through userves messages, it appeared to have upgraded the previous night.

Alls well that ends well I suppose and thanks to those who chipped in with advice.

Did the instructions on how to write the update disc not apply to your version of Windows?

I created a set of instructions that were in the update set for how to write a disc from the ISO image for OSX, Windows XP and Windows Vista / 7 that should have been correct...

Cheers

Hi Phil

Yes there were instructions for Windows 7. My PC didn't have windows disc image burner selected as a default programme though  - hence my difficulties. All sorted now.
