Desktop Client won't find HDX

Posted by: GraemeH on 08 June 2012

Windows 7, wired from Virgin 'Superhub' to HDX but the naim desktop client software on my PC can't locate the HDX.

When I put the HDX ip address into the pc it brings up the 'naim' disc logo saying 'please wait' and the control panel then momentarily flashes on and off before saying 'please wait' again.....??

Any ideas folks?  I've tried the firewall off and enabled networking but no joy.

My iPad control is fine to HDX.

Powering down the HDX and rebooting allows the PC to find the HDX if I manually type in the ip address in the address bar.....strange.  G

Very strange and I have a SuperHub and never had that particular issue with it...

...however I had so many other problems with it that I eventually gave in, stuck the SuperHub in "CableModem" mode and used a half-decent cable router in my network instead.

I'm suprised that your iPad is able to autodiscover your HDX ... I'm pretty sure that my SuperHub blocked all UPnP autodiscovery and I always had to use the IP address of my HDX to be able to connect to it.

Hi Phil

The iPad did require me to input the ip address. G

Good - sort of - at least the SuperHub is being consistently pants and is filtering your UPnP discovery too.

It's a terrible bit of kit - I still happily believe that I was one of the reasons that the first firmware update after it went live gave the "Cablemodem" mode option to just turn everything off and use it as a dumb gateway...

It is indeed a turd.  The wireless range is shocking so I connect it to a Belkin router for wireless.....however connecting the HDX direct from the Belkin wouldn't give me an Internet connection so I have to keep the superturd fully operational and take the cable from that to the HDX to get Internet access.  Luckily the wifi signals don't conflict. Belkins are rubbish mate, get a real router. Asus rt56nu is what i have connected to my superdud.

Hmmm ... OK apart from the fact that I would never again use anything Belkin (simply due to poor experiences in the past) then if the Belkin is a cable router (i.e. it has an Ethernet WAN connection) rather than an ADSL router then you should be able to connect the WAN port of the Belkin to LAN1 of the SuperHub (in cablemodem mode) and get straight out to the internet.

My personal preferences are for the DrayTek 28x0 and 29x0 units - I have a 2920 (none-WiFi) one at home which I use with a Pakedge WAP-W3 wireless access point and they have been utterly stable for the last two years...
