2012. Half time report

Posted by: Bruce Woodhouse on 11 June 2012

Looking back over purchases so far this has been a bit of thin year for new music so far.

Best for me is probably Cowboy Junkies 'Wilderness Years'.

Richard Hawley 'Standing At Sky's Edge' is a blast but not quite what was expected.

Patrick Watson 'Adventures In Your Own Backyard' continues to grow

The Shins 'Port Of Morrow' has had plenty of plays.

First Aid Kit 'The Lions Roar' just about completes the top 5

Also been plenty of disappointments (Bowerbirds, Exitmusic, Lambchop Kathleen Edwards come to mind)

How about everyone else? Share your favourites.

To CC

Thank you for the reply.

So most of the artists were dance/electronica which explains why they were unfamiliar to me as I have neglected that area of music for the lastcouple of years.

Until recently, I used to listen to benji b when he was on radio 1 as i drove back from night shift, so not an ideal way of taking note of the artists he was playing. Although, I liked what he was playing of Subtract enough to remember it and buy their album and, having followed your link, I am now able to recall Actress albeit without fondness.

You are right about the acoustic number by Peter broderick and will try and find the albumn tomorrow whilst in cambridge.

Hi Bruce,  My copy of Wye Oak civilian finally arrived at the weekend , it has taken a couple of listens to get into it but is really rather good.   It is an Intersting album some tracks seem to be a mix of folk and "shoegaze" an unusual combination but it works well.    always good to hear something new so thanks for that i may get the previous albums as well.

This brilliant LP only came this morning.

Its now on its third play.

Its wonderful and also now my number one album of this year so far.

And to think it only cost £4.99 plus £1 for post.

So  far this year bought around 30 cds due to the reduced cost of cd's these days. Only bought 3 HD downloads due to scarcity of ones I want to purchase and high cost.
