Is the way the various data/metadata are searched and edited documented?

In DCI you can see "properties" per album or per track (depending on the album) which apparently cannot (always?) be searched.  

Then there are the   People -performers composers conductors.  

Are the Artists connected to the people category in the database ?

The track and Album names can be edited to include search-tags.

Without understanding the working the search functions, plus what can and cannot be edited, it is not possible to decide how to go about correcting and improving/completing the metadata.

Does anyone have a suggestion about the best way to go about correcting and completing the metadata.
