Tablets - Help Needed.
Posted by: Gale 401 on 24 June 2012
My 7 year old's laptop has given up.
He wants a 10" Tablet.
I have had a good look around but it's a bloody minefield if you don't know what's what.
So I thought i would ask you lot if you have any thoughts on the best one for around £150 to £200?
I know a ipad would be fav but he does drop things.
Cheers,
Stu

Julian,
I don't want second hand.
He has played with his sisters Blackberry Tab and loves it.
He just wants a bigger screen.
Some also do better AV and games stuff than the Mac so i am told.
Its just i don't have a clue as there are a lot to choose from.

Hi, Stu,
I have only known one person who owned a non-iPad tablet, Android of some sort. He liked it. I work in IT, and try to follow these things. Testimony looks hard to come by.
Info might be past sell-by-date, but Tech Reviwer, Andy Ihnatko of the Chicago Sun Times wrote some nice things about the Kindle Fire, and top Nook reader as lower-priced iPad alternatives, for the right situation. Both are more than just readers. Andy doesn't pull any punches. His comments on the new Retina MacBook are an interesting read, BTW.
Good luck.
Nick
He bought one or rather i did with his money.
A 10" Touch screenTablet that does everything he needs.
Internet/ youtube/ skype/Wifi out and about/GPS/Games/camera/video/Full HD TV and lots of sockets in and out and other stuff.
Got a case for it that acts as a stand and has a almost full size keyboard that plugs into it as well.
Will post what its like when we have played with it later today when he gets back from school if anyone is bothered?

Pull yourself together, the 7 y.o. should not be involved in the decision. Tell him the one he will be getting and if any complaints send him to his room without food/drink for 24 hours.
My current tablet is Metronidazole but it is not recommended for children.
So he has a big say on what its spent on.
He is not a baby.
He is a very clued up seven year old.

Can it run N-stream though. I read on here somewhere that an Android version is due. Or did I dream it ????
Jim,
The one thing i will never be accused of is not having a sense of humour?
I did not find the above post funny.
Do you have any children?
Just call me a Norman.
