Insight into music industry

Posted by: Alf Pilgrim on 28 June 2012

As a lifelong follower of music (I'm the wrong side of 50!) I thought I had a reasonable understanding of the music industry. Wrong. Or may be out of date at best.

I've had the opportunity today to become immersed with the promotion of a student band. The band are really good, based out of Guildford and are called 'The Annexe'. If you look at this following link it will give you a taster of their style. http://tinyurl.com/7r7kx3u

It seems the focus on promotion is absolutely all on social media. Flyers, posters, busking seem to be old hat. It's just Twitter, Facebook and Youtube. And huge variety of techniques to create followers, likes and views. Incredible.

Thats how it works today.

You just get it out there and hope it work's??

You just have to look back over the last 7 years?

A good one, The Arctic Monkeys.

It was all done by them on the internet.

Not so good one Justin B eeeeeeBeeerrrrrrr.

At least people can get there music out there now ,Even if its good or not?

You can feed the world like never before.

If a record company want's to through shed loads of money at you?

Great.

You  just get a few good people to sort the paper work out.

The wonderful Kate does it with her whole family and no one else..
