Diamond geezer

I thought I'd take take a quick look in the padded cell and read a few pages of comments on the latest in a long line of banking scandals. Nothing !!!!

I'll start it then. Personally, I think his head should be put on a spike and placed in a prominent position in Canary Wharf. Or a long jail sentence at the very least. The Americans seem to be able to jail their white collar crooks but for some reason, it's something we just don't do over here.

Who are you on about?

Mr Barclays Bob Diamond bank fixing?

If you are?

I think he should be banged up now until it goes to court,

That said, I think the whole Barclays bank system should be shut down.

Its more bent than most and has always been.

Most of there money was made in South Africa to start with then in the 60s and 70s it came from arms deals to country's that should not of had any.

Stu,

That's why I closed my account with them back '82.

A big example needs to be made in this sector as they are getting away that ever they want too.

There is simply no defence they can come up with anymore.

And it's no surprise.  That's the way banks have pushed themselves domestically and commercially for years.

Sell, sell, sell, sell, never mind the quality, feel the width.

That trickles down from the top to bottom with unreasonable sales pressure piled on everyone. Their incomes are made up of salary plus bonus but, for many, the 'bonus' is really part of the salary and they feel they can't manage without it (this includes the footsoldiers in the branches on high streets).

Of course other industries may do similar but money does make the world go round as they say and it is, of course, rather an emotive issue.

They have been proven to con their customers, their owners (shareholders), their staff (who have to deal with the public and the fallout).

Shambles.

On this note I would like to change my bank, any suggestions for an honest and ethical bank?

What is robbing a bank compared to founding a bank? (Bertolt Brecht)

I think you'll find "honest and ethical bank" is an oxymoron.

The Co-op?

We're with HSBC and Nat West so therefore not qualified to recommend an honest bank. Assuming such a thing actually exists.

First Direct is great (customer service, online ease of use), but it is part of HSBC, so I'm not sure how it squares with the ethical side of things, highly recommended as a place to keep and manage your money though.

Sberbank is doing pretty well right now - but I suspect the journey to Russia to make your deposits or withdraw your roubles might be a little inconvenient and somewhat uneconomic.

The Co-op?

Someone else suggested the Co-op today...I will look into it!

I must admit that I have had nothing but excellent service from my bank for the last 12 years, which is the Smile bank (internet arm of the Co-op).
