Disruption during streaming

Posted by: SamSam on 29 June 2012

Hi,

I am streaming from a NAS to the Uniti via a wireless connection. Sometimes, when browsing to another song, the new track starts correctly but after may be 2-3 seconds, I experience a disruption about 1-2 second and then the track continue normally. This happens like once on 20 cases.

It is difficult for me to find out where is the issue. It may be coming from the NAS or the wireless connection quality but I discovered that it occurs often when there's format or bit rate change between the new and preceding track.

It would be grateful if you share your view on this if you are experiencing similar issue

Cheers, Sam

Hi Sam,

it's the buffer that goes too low for adequate playback, and hence the disrusption for a few seconds until it reloads.

I have noticed that depending on what the streamer or NAS is doing in the background, the buffer / bandwidhth will vary, and hence potential random disruptions.

Try noticing what the uniti or NAS are doing when it happens.

All the best.

Stefano

Hi Stefano,

Thanks for the feed-back.

Do you know by case any kind of monitoring tool for that from a desktop PC

Hi Sam,

your NAS should have its own monitoring app; key culprits could be intensive CPU or disk usage.

I doubt your Uniti is doing anything special; it's not like a HDX or UnitiServe that can scan/rescan extensive libraries.

Check also what else is on your lan that can cause bandwidth issues in those moments.
