issues with n-stream 3.0?
Posted by: Andrew P.. on 29 June 2012
Updated to new version - ability to adjust volume has been greyed out & isn't working.
Also got random error message saying file format unsupported - for a ripped cd!
Rebooting the Qute fixed the "file format " issue, volume control still playing up
Also why is the ability to use the new elements coming "Summer" for everything except a product bought 10 minutes ago? - really poor
I can't get Nstream 3.0 onto my iPod at all! It's on my PC but when I try to sync it I get a message saying it needs a later version of iPod software. Nstream 2 runs fine so what is that all about? I have an original iPod Touch running 3.13 - had to upgrade to that to get the original Nstream on it and my iPod says I am running the latest software. Apple just works? Pah!
n-Stream says it requires iOS 4 or later. I guess some of the elements require iOS 4 to work.
Thanks for the info Steve. Looks like I'm stuffed then - hope they bring out an Android version soon!

Don't stretch those resources too thin! I'm still waiting to be able to update my Uniti software on a Mac.
Maybe we should ask about Linux.....or then again....
Pev, try BubbleUPnP for Android.
It won't control anything other than UPNP, but does include volume control and there is a free version available.
Thanks Orangutan - I'll check that out

Hi Andrew,
The volume bar on the app is greyed out when you are browsing lists of data - this is by design as pulling through lists of data can involve a lot of traffic and that can affect the smooth operation of the volume control. If you go to the "Now Playing" screen (or any page where you are not "browsing") then the volume control should be active again.

What UPnP server are you using with your Qute? The UPnP server could have been trying to transcode to an unsupported format? Without significantly more information there are many possibilities and none relate to the n-Stream app itself.

I am sorry that you feel that it is "really poor" that there is a delay between functionality that is present on new products being released on existing products however to answer your question the firmware update with the ability to handle playlists is "expected Aug 2012" because the new firmware that is required to allow those functions has been developed on the new products and is now being checked and tested tested on the many combinations of the older streaming products.
Please note, as per the sticky at the top of these forums - if you wish to get support then can you please contact support@naimaudio.com ... it is very difficult to provide support via the forums as threads and information get lost in the general "noise"...
Cheers

while playing a highres file nstream doesn´t show the album cover. with cd Rips everything is fine. I checked that the files has the cover in the tag.
Anybody else with that Problem ?

Hi teww,
Have you a copy of the album cover in the folder where the music files are stored?
Normally call the cover 'folder.jpg'. Depending on your UPNP device, that may be required to display on n-stream (or the Sonos app for that matter).
Cheers
David
Did anyone notice than in previous n-Stream, when returning from the album currently playing to the library it positioned you at where that album was in the list (browsing by album). In version 3 it takes you to the top of the list again.
Yes, I have noticed this, and sometimes I end right at the top of the directory tree where the upnp servers are displayed. I suspect a bug that hopefully wil be put right in a maintenance release of nstream

I still have a column of dots not alphabets on the right hand side. But the Naim press release photos show alphabets. I use NDX (24/96), QNAP219PII NAS and Twonky.
Just my thought.
That would be nice to see the aplhabet instead of dots, a lot more precise. Would that be on the iTouch / iPhone as well as iPad ? I could imagine the letters being quite small on the iTouch / iPhone interface.
Didn't get much for the upgrade until the Firmware update comes out. The album details is a "nice-to-have", loads of "must-have" items need sorting out though; fast forward / rewind, etc.
I like the new view when selecting an album; bigger album cover with tracks listed below by track number. It seems when viewing an album marked as a compilation it has a small album art work next to each track and each track artist / song name next to it. Marks sense but not sure of the value of having an album cover next to each track - uses up a bit of screen realestate. Unless you make your own compilations (play lists I beleive.....) you don't need different artwork per song. Minor really i.e. one view for non-compilation albums (as is) one for compliations (same as non-compilation but have song name and artist for each track) and another for play lists (as is).
Does seem faster though which is a "must-have".
@"Whats my name" Will take a look, sounds like a bug that needs fixing
@"Peter W" The alphabet index is only shown if n-Stream is connected to a product with playlist support. So for now Uniti2, NAC 172 and NDS. Playlist firmware for all other products will be available soon
Not sure if this is problem of the new version or not as I only ran the old one for a few weeks before updating. I have been tidying up metadata and adding album art to the few absentees. Not a problem. However some of these additions of album art do not appear when I do album search whereas they are there when I do artist search and when the tracks are playing: for other new additions there are no problems and they appear whatever the function. I am using AssetNas.

Gone are the nice simple days of being able to say exactly what a problem is without lots of information to nail it down...
Is this all hi-res files or just specific ones?
If you put the files on a memory stick and plug it into your player then do they play OK and show cover art?
What format are the files in?
Where did they come from? (Manually generated, in which case with what program, or downloaded, in which case from where?)
What UPnP server are you using?
Cheers

@"Whats my name" The alphabet index is on both iPhone and iPad. The size of the index letters on iPhone/iPod is standardised as per Apple apps, for an example see the apple Contacts app that comes pre installed on all devices.
The online album info feature is pretty awesome once you start exploring all the info that is available for your collection, the other features such as playlists and play queue need the streamer to support them too so we need to wait for the product firmware release before they are available on n-Stream.
If a list of tracks has different artists it could have a different cover for each track, no real way of telling with UPnP hence having a thumbnail for each track in this situation
@Forester
n-Stream caches images locally to speed up displaying of lists when you come back to one you have already viewed. It is likely that you viewed the list of albums and the covers were downloaded, then you modified the covers then you viewed the artists list so that list showed the new covers. Try refreshing the image cache in the n-Stream setup menu.
Am I the only one here getting almost every time a wrong album info - using the Not this album feature does not help? Which tags are used to query the database? Even with non-classical albums I get very high percentage wrong results?
This streaming lark makes playing music far more complex than when you just plonked a cassette in and pressed play ..... but does it have to be that way.
nStream ... yes I like the info about the album I'm playing .... zero interest in the review, an option not to display them would be great as the reviewers are clueless for the most part and who cares what they think and sometimes their views are offensive(I mean who the hell does Jeff Dreadnought think he is), I'm sure some people like the other albums to try feature, but no thanks really.
The concentration should be on the type of things we have always got with vinyl records (not the scratches) and things like song sheets so we can singalonganaim.
However, overall I think it is a good app that does the important thing of let me play an album
Will the update to playlists require the new streamer boards?
After installing v3.0 the first thing I noticed was the smaller font size. This is not good news for my deteriorating eyesight. Can Naim make it larger or user adjustable in future?

O.K..... My Mistake... Sorry.
With the cover.jpg or folder.jpg it works.

I assume the following is a reply to the above?
In which case - actually, no...
Playlist support will be available on both 24/192 and 24/96 hardware platforms...
