N-serve behaviour

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 04 July 2012

I changed my router and now have a new network. Nserve on the ipad does not see the unitiserve on the network when auto connection is switched on. It says no servers present.

When i look at my albums, they are all available so i dont get why N-serve says there is no server present.

When auto connection is switched off, then the ip address is shown and this seems fine.

I want to be able to see the unitiserve when auto connection is switched on.

I tried deleting and re-installing n-serve but this has made no difference.

Also when i scroll through my albums quickly the album art is missing and i have to wait for it to re-appear on the screen. I think this is all connected because the auto connection does not seem to work.

N-Stream on the Superuniti does not have this behaviour.

Anyone else experiencing this behaviour?

Thanks in advance for your comments

Silly question time then:

1.  Have you made the new network the default network on your iPad,, settings, WiFi... ?

2.  Is this new router set for DHCP=yes  (i.e. it is the DHCP server and it allocates IP address leases)?

3.  Have you power cycled (turned off/on) your Unitiserve after installing new router (so that this new router has allocated its IP address, even though it may be the exact same address as before)?

I need these answers before head can be scratched again for new ideas!

First question - what is your "new" router?

From what you're saying (no autodiscovery but direct connection works) then it sounds like the new router isn't handling the n-Serve apps UPnP discovery (iOS 4.3 dropped IGMPv2 support and so if your new router only handles IGMPv2 then this will result). I keep an Airport Express (much as I loathe them) in my bag set up as a Wireless Access Point for exactly this sort of issue - I can connect it to *ANY* network and it gives me a known, IGMPv3 capable, access point.

New router is a Zyxel 4615 - just bought a couple of weeks ago. Unitiserve did not work with the old router, it never found the album art when ripping. This problem is now fixed as i get the AMG database information.

Unitiserve is working fine, its N-serve that is not working as smoothly as on my old router. So with the old router N-serve was fine, but unitiserve could not access the internet properly.

So now with the new router N-serve is not optimum, but unitiserve is working fine!

1: yes

2: yes

3: no, but the unitiserve is working properly.

I'll try option 3 when i'm home and report back. Cheers

If power cycling doesn't do it, you probably need to open the UPnP ports on the router. Go into the router's administrative page and look for some setting that allows UPnP. Not sure how Zyxel does it, but in my Sky router there's a setting to 'turn on UPnP' which enables TCP ports 8086,7,8 and UDP port 52389.

Phil will have a better idea of exactly what's needed port wise (it's all mumbo jumbo to me and I've been doing it for forty years!) but you may be lucky and only have to find the 'turn it on' setting.

"Bon chance" as I've heard they often say in Salisbury!

Good answer rjstaines!!

I forgot to switch on the upnp functionality. Now everything is working well :-)

Phil you should recruit rjstaines to Naim technical support!
