Robin van Persie - is he doing a Rooney?

Posted by: totemphile on 05 July 2012

Or will he indeed leave Arsenal? Can we cope without him this season?

What do you reckon?

Posted on: 05 July 2012 by BigH47

If I were to be honest , I don't GAFF.

Unless he is moving to the European Cup winners!

He is not doing a Rooney, he knows that the gunners will not acheive anything until Arsenal change some of their policies. He wants a champions league winners medal and he cant see that happening unless he goes to Barca, Man City, etc.

Just my view,

Ken

What you have to keep in mind is that these guys play for MONEY. And TBH in a way you cannot blame them. If another club offers them an xtra £20k A WEEK they are going to move.

We have just lost AJ to QPR and he came out with a load of old tosh that he was moving to a club with more ambition etc etc. I would sooner the guy was HONEST and just said i am getting more wedge down the road.

Arsenal are neverog going to be sucessful until they realise that they are behind the times. Hill-Wood would not sell to Usmanov because "he's not one of us".

On his way to Portman Road I hear to join Lionel Messi who we are also after, but we can't guarantee him first team football with Scotland Chopra up front

Is " i want a  champions league medal" the new way of saying double my wages or i'm off.

Not too many Arsenal fans here on the forum it seems?

Well, I think we will be just fine without him, so let him go, no point keeping a player that doesn't want to be at the club. Cash in now and invest wisely. Look at what happened last year, everyone was writing us off, and Wenger and the whole team did a stellar job finishing third. Had it not been for the awful form in the first couple of months, for obvious reasons, Arsenal could have won the league, no kidding. And that's where the regrets have to come in, seeing van Persie shitting all over his team mates, I mean he is their captain and not acknowledging the quality that exists within the team and the real chance they have of challenging for the title this year, had he decided to stay, that's the most disappointing part of it all. And forgive me, how much money does a guy need to live comfortably ever after, it's not as if 130,000 a week, plus 5 million sign on bonus is gonna leave the guy broke afterwards. I think Arsene Wenger is doing a terrific job at Arsenal, it's just a shame some of his players have shown so little gratitude, when he could have left ten times over to any club in the world. I for one fully support his approach. No one player is bigger than the club.

I Arsene we trust

How fitting you chose winners and not champions. Playing like Chelsea did, I hope that's not representing the future of European football. But Abramovich will see to that, otherwise it'll be the shortest contract RdM has ever had. In any case, I guess everyone deserves a bit of luck a some stage and tbh they did. I was happy for Drogba and the older generation, bar Terry, and even for RdM, he deserved all the credit for getting the team back together and pulling it off, but the better team most certainly did not win. That's football.

Semantics.

Winners ,Champions ,thieves, it's in the Stamford Bridge trophy cabinet that's all that counts.

Posted on: 10 July 2012 by totemphile

Semantics is what gives meaning, so by definition it lends meaning too, it's what differentiates.

While some may think having a trophy in the cabinet is all that counts, others would argue it's not irrelevant how that trophy was won. Surely there is a difference between winning in style and deservedly and nicking the win at the last minute, while being the inferior team over the entire game.

See the thing is, you can fool those who don't know but not those who do. Deep down inside even the players know. And every time they walk past that cabinet, they will also be reminded of how that trophy was won. The emotional reaction will not be the same.

That's my view anyways, but then again I'm an idealist, a dying breed.

What  a load of idealistic crap you spout.

Ouch, touchy subject biggy, is it? And as expected yours is yet again a simple answer coming from a simple mind. May you continue to live blissfully in ignorance...

All pro-sport is dirty.

Money and winning are all that seem to count.

I have no interest at all in pro-sport except cricket, and even that is showing signs of being tainted  ...

As someone once said all you need to do to find out who was the best is to look at the final score...

Posted on: 11 July 2012 by totemphile

Ahh, I see, a bit like who's got the most money is the most successful, right?

Sort of.  That and the biggest, most unsustainable debts.  You cannot deny the massive change in achievements Man City have delivered and I suspect they will win the league this year.  Probability is that Arsenal will fall further behind City, what is less clear is how coherent the other teams will be in challenging for the honours.

As for RVP, well, he or his agent are acting like greedy little toads at the moment.  I single him out because of the extensive periods of injury and associated poor form which Arsenal put up with prior to his 'Zapp the Wonder Kid' performance last season.  I'd prefer he stayed, but if Arsenal can obtain a good price for him, chances are the buyer may 'enjoy' a return to form from RVP - hope they have a comfortable bench for him....

I wasn't thinking of football when I made my statement Peter, more as a sarcastic illustration and analogy of the fact that the scoreline in itself is not necessarily a reflection of who the better team was. Of course it all depends on your definition of better.

Whether Arsenal will fall further behind the likes of MC or not remains to be seen. IMO money alone will not guarantee any club trophies. Look at Chelsea, they didn't make the top 4 even though they have heaps more cash than clubs like Arsenal or Tottenham. Good players are very important but it's whether the team gels or not and performs as one, which makes the difference in the end. Of course the manager has a big role to play here as well. RdM is a good example, if it hadn't been for him, they wouldn't have made it through the semifinal, let alone win the cup. Unfortunately MC have both, endless money and a very good manager in Mancini. It'll be an interesting season this year, one I am looking forward to. If Arsenal start well, anything is possible.

That's why this whole RVP business is so disappointing, it's very unsettling. But I agree, a part of me thinks it would be great, if he stayed. And who knows maybe him coming out openly with that statement will result in one or two more purchases in midfield and defense that we otherwise would not have signed. If he goes, it better not be to another club in the EPL. AC Milan maybe? And if he does go, it's not assured he'll be a success there as much as he has been at Arsenal. The whole team was set up around him and playing for him. At MC the situation would be very different, lot's of egos to keep happy, lot's more games on the bench. It could all go pear-shaped for him.

Well, we'll all know in a few weeks time....

all i know is that west ham are above arsenal at this present time......which i point out to my son with great pleasure

You had better make the most of it, I suspect.

Have to agree with BigH47.  A lot of my friends are West Ham fans as are most of my neighbours.  When WHU win they talk of the Champions League and when they lose the conversation changes to fears of relegation.  No wonder they sing "I'm forever blowing bubbles"..........

COME ON YOU LIONS !!!!!!!!

Chopra should be England centre forward, especially when playing up front with Scotland.

Chris Houghton and Paul Jewel were both interviewed on Anglia TV and asked their aspirations for the new season

Houghton said if Norwich could remain in the Premier League he'd be delighted.

Paul said he expected us to gain promotion and win the FA Cup and the League Cup and to go on to be the dominant team in Europe.

The interviewer asked Paul if such aspirations might be a little unrealistic.

Paul looked at Houghton and said "well, he started it".
