Uniti/Network Player Support for Music Streaming Services

Will Naim be able to upgrade software for the Uniti range and network players to stream music services like MOG, Spotify, Rhapsody etc or is this a hardware issue?  I have a UnitiServe SSD and would love to have it's superior performance streaming MOG vs. the Sonos.

Don't think there's a hardware issue, but there are probably some marketing questions over which service(s) to support etc.  Also, if Naim supports some services there will be customer pressure to support others so it could become quite a large engineering and support effort.

There is already the capability to stream from a Windows laptop/tablet to Naim streaming devices and you can probably do this in the Apple world as well (but not yet by Airplay).  If you have such a device the world is your lobster.

Yep, I have read about streaming via PC but have not attempted yet. Since Internet radio was added  hopefully next in line would be music services. I'll give the PC method a try. Assume this is set up via the DTC? Hope Naim add the main services as they are great for discovering new music and will probably some day reach CD Redbook and beyond when infrastructures allow.

Thanks...

Streaming from a PC would be to a UPNP streamer, not your server.  I don't know much about the Sonos streamer but I don't think it supports UPNP.  There are no Naim stand-alone streamers so they don't really have a solution for you.  I just use a PC connected to my nDAC via Toslink optical.

Thinking about the problem again, there would be a big software development overhead in keeping an embedded (e.g.) Spotify etc. client up to date with the Windows/Mac/mobile versions.  Would probably only be worth doing if the business model was right i.e. Spotify gave Naim a significant cut of any subscriptions.
