How to backup ns01 to nas wwith dtc?

Posted by: Claus-Thoegersen on 09 July 2012

Hi,

Today I received my Readynas Duo 2, so close to a disaster as you can get! The raidar utility could not at all be used on Windows, the only way to run it was to sue one of my macs! and the dashboard html interface is halfway unusable! Anyway

I can at least use the predefined shares. The important task is to back my ns01 internal disk onto the nas. But I cannot find a way to add a share to the list of backup devices. Am I missing something obvious here? or do I have to backup the music m folder manually?

Claus,

That sounds very very wrong - the Duo V2's are usually a breeze to get set up - would you like me to take a look for you?

Hi,

At least the backup now works!

The problem with the readynas is using the raidar software the windows version cannot be used at all. How they have managed to come up with a 100 percent screen reader unaccessible application I really do not know. It seems they use a strange installer, and part of the raidar appplication is java based,   to make java work with Windows screen readers the program must be coded following some guidelines, wich they have failed to do! I should have downloaded the raidar program before purchasing the Readynas to find out if it would work!

Following the trend the dashboard is also coded strangely, I am sure it would not pass any html validations! It works a little less bad on Firefox I found out yesterday, at least I was able to create a new share.

The problems continue in the DTC! No problems with the list of shares in itself, but when I use the keyboard in the list, I have to be very fast! It seems that the list of shares is updated with a 10 seconds interval probably less. When the list is updated the keyboard focus is taken to the top of the list and I can start all over finding the correct share. The same happens when I tab through the controls for each share. Well finally I figured all these things out and the backup now run fine daily.

That does not mean the problems are over, now I cannot get the ns01 server to find music installed on the nas. I have created a share called naim, and copyed a few albums to the share. The share is online in the list of shares on the dtc, and shown  on the music library tab, but, artist, albums and genres, are empty.   Claus

I would really like to solve it myself, but since I have tried many things, it could be the simplest solution. I have  powered down the ns01 and restarted the router, but the music is still not availabel.

Do I just contact support during normal work hours?

Just a  small update on this problem with my ns01 and my nas.

Phil worked on the problem Monday afternoon, but was not able to solve it. I thought I had tried all the usual restart magic, so just to be sure I performed a factory reset of my router, and that solved the problem, finally the ns01 can see the music on the nas shares on the readynas!
