Genesis DVD-A

A question for owners of the SACD + DVD 2 disk releases.

I see from the blurb that there is a 5.1 mix on the DVDs. Is a 2 channel "conventional" rip possible?

TIA

Hi Harry,

The SACD discs are hybrids so they have 16 bit CD layers. Presumably, ripping this (as I have done) is the best you can get, unless you own an early PS3 or you're prepared to visit dodgy torrent sites.

The DVD disc only gives a choice of DTS or Dolby Digital on my Arcam player.

To be honest, I don't really like the remixes on these CDs as I grew up with the originals. The extras are quite jolly, though.

Thanks Keith.

I haven't heard a remaster that didn't sound awful. I thought the DVDs might be worth a punt if I could pull stereo off. But not to worry.

I was (briefly) spurned on by the 40th anniversary of ELO1 which I bought to collect but discovered a stereo 24/96 mix on the DVD which was not obvious from the blurb. Ripped and tagged it this morning. Off to listen to it now.

The DTS is 24/96, but there isn't a stereo mix in the menu, although the US releases may be different?

I'm listening to the 5.1 now. It puts you in the middle of the music, which might not be too bad if I had five identical speakers, but my surrounds are bipoles and small. Very detailed, but soon gets on your nerves. Much better to confine thesurround action to ambient noise.

I too would love to rip a proper 24/96 version, but I suspect that you would need to fold down the 5.1 mix.
