Sad, he was a legend....

So sad , he and his pals made some stupendous music, which fortunately we can still enjoy in his memory.

R.I.P. Jon.

Sad news. Purple in Green's Playhouse Glasgow 5th March 1971 was my first real concert and they were quite magnificent, still one of my favourites over 40 years later. I saw the Stones the following Monday and at the end much of the audience was shouting for Purple.

Purple on Friday and the Stones on Monday. Haven't had too many weekends like that recently.

RIP Jon. Thanks for it all.

To the next world.  He gave us some great moments, esp. "Highway Star", and left behind some clever inventions, too, for the keyboard world.

My wife used to cut his hair. She was very upset by this sad news, saying he was a very nice man.

RIP.

A great loss. This plays now (the Musical Fidelity CD) as I think of all the great music Jon made. A sad, sad day...

Very sad.

Perhaps not as great as Deep Purple, I saw him with Whitesnake a few times in the early 80's when they were still ablues rock band. He and Ian Paice were brilliant.

I saw him interviewed on TV, and he seemed such a gentle man.

Ditto. Saw Whitesnake from '81 through '84 tours for some of my favourite gigs then was at Knebworth for the return of the MKII Deep Purple in '85. Sad news but as others have said his music is still with us.

Unfortunately the only time I saw Purple was at Wembley early 80's it was pretty shambolic, they only did 65 minutes, better than the prvious night of 60, but no riot this night. Main system packed up just left PA and bass. It was obvious that Blackmore did not have his heart in it.

Shame , but it didn't stop me playing their stuff.

Cue some Machine Head.

That wouldn't have been Rainbow would it BigH? I remember reading about the Wembley riot in Sounds around that time.

Cheers

a.c

it's possible but I'm sure it was Purple because soon after the reason for Richies indifference was made clear, he was leaving DP. It all becomes a blur after a while. Which is a pity, not too keen on Blur.

It may have been mid /late 70's even.

How wonderful to leave the legacy of a huge footprint of music upon this Earth for future generations to appreciate and enjoy.

Gifted musicians enrich the lives of us ordinary folk.

Thanks Jon. Enjoy the new gig.

John.
