Whats Your Most Loved & Played Talking Heads Album?
Posted by: Gale 401 on 21 July 2012
Do you have a fav CD and Vinyl Pressing of that album?
If so what is it?
Stu.
Speaking in tongues, on CD, infectious right through to track 9 (naive melody)
Stephen
True Stories.
I also like the soundtrack of the film by David Byrne, which was the last LP I bought. 1986? 87?
This thread just prompted me to listen to Talking Heads:77 on vinyl. No duff tracks or fillers- side 2 in particular.
Jonn,
+1 and More Songs followed by Fear Of Music.
My late teen age years all over again.

Remain In Light (original UK pressing) by far. Fabulous album, their best IMO. But Fear of Music (Japanese press) and MSABAF (orig UK) also get reasonably regular plays. I haven't listened to any of the others in ages - think I may do tomorrow. Thanks for the reminder Stu!
Remain In Light. It was my first LP purchased with my own money. I was 13.
Recently bought the HD Tracks hi-res re-issue. This is excellent in terms of SQ.
They're all great really. Always shocked at how my early '77 pressing whip the pants off a later one. However, Speaking in Tongues is much the most played. I bought two copies of it when it first came out - one Stateside and one in the UK - and they both sound absolutely brilliant in spite (or perhaps because of) of the DMM.
'Stop Making Sense', the DVD, it just works for me, although I do like the 'empty' sound of 'Speaking in Tongues'.
Fear Of Music original vinyl is my fav closely followed by Remain in Light. They were a great band I have all their stuff on vinyl.
Over time it has been Remain, Fear, Stop... Recently it's More Songs. All on CD, some first pressing, some remastered.
If I had to pick only one it would probably be Fear of Music I guess.
(BTW thanks, this made me realize I don't have Speaking in Tongues ! Added to the exponentially growing list of music I've yet to listen to...)
And +1 for Tom Tom Club, so much fun !
On the Black! In no particular order.
Vinyl or CD, they're all brilliant.
If I really had to choose just one, then . . . The Name of this Band. Love it on my original vinyl, and still love it on cd.
A couple of my regrets is that I never saw them or Earth, Wind and Fire live!
Talking Heads '77 on CD
Probably these two are the most played (LPs) because they came out when I was a teenager and I played way more music in those days...
I was in late 20s when MTV came on strong. I'd moved and had little money, I saw the film Stop Making Sense and was thrilled, down in dumps theater in San Diego. Biggest disappointment was no dancing in the ailes, that was one where you wanted to explode in your seat.
I like most of them a lot, but always have listened to More Songs about Buildings and Food the most.
This is like having to choose which of my children I love the most! ...but ......at this precise moment in time ...Remain In Light edges it - a simply superb album.
I have a plethora of 12" singles by the band which mainly sound fab as does the DMM version of Speaking In Tounges.
...Their DVD-A The Brick compilation of all their albums sounds wonderful in 5.1!
What are your view's on the 2006 remastered CDs? I used to have Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues on vinyl but would like to buy now in CD - are the re-masters better or worse than the original 80's CD's
Thanks
Andy 1912, SMS & LC - same here.
Got the Remain in Light HD track download but it has not struck a chord with me yet. I have ripped my HDCD of SMS into a 24 bit file using DBpower amp - I think it betters the regular rip. It gets the most plays. still have the two above on LP but no TT worthy of bothering.
It has to be Remain in Light on vinyl. The original UK pressing.
I've always been a bit partial to Fear of Music.
I was fortunate to see them live, in the fall of 1979. The opening act was Pearl Harbor and the Explosions. Leading up to the show I thought that "Life During Wartime" would make a great opening song, and that was their opening song. (There was no internet then to see setlists . . . )
We have tickets to see David Byrne and St. Vincent on their upcoming tour
Without question for me Remain in Light was their opus record! Simply brilliant and amazingly innovative at that time ( or any time really). The Eno and Belew influences took it to a new level. There are nuances on the high def version I had never heard before despite NUMEROUS listens over many years.Worth getting the 96/24 from HD Tracks!
In order my othe favs are: More Songs About Buildings and Food, '77, Speaking in Tongues, and Fear of Music.......and as I write this I'm thinking really?! I love FOM what am I thinking?! let's just say they are an incredible and influential band!
Now.... Let's discuss The Catherine Wheel by David Byrne! For sure a desert island disc that has been dramatically overlooked by most music fans I know. You MUST get this if your a TH fan! Trust me on that one!!! ;-)
