Hi all,
I have a (network) problem with my HDX. I have an older Windows XP laptop on which I have set up a folder with a number of downloaded music files, merely some music for my kids. Hence I don't use it very often.
Recently, I discovered that he HDX does see the share, but somehow it does not see the music anymore which is on it. I've switched off and on the HDX and laptop several times, created a new share (Shared Music), which the HDX does also see. The DTC status in "online" and by active it give "YES". But again, it does not see any of the music files on it while these files played perfectly a couple of months ago!
I know you always have to wait a couple of minutes, but after 15 minutes or so, everything is still the same...
Since I'm no network expert, can anybody help me?
Regards,
Michel

I have had exactly the same problem with my ns01. Try to reset your router, and if a normal reset does not work hard reset it, but be aware that all settings on the router will be back to defaults, so you have to stup wireless access and maybe other settings. This solved my problem, I have no idea why!
Wich router are you using?

Sometimes, the HDX takes time to update its database. Go on it, "network shares" take the folder where you music is and choose "refresh". Like this, you force it to visit the folder at the time. Wait 15 minutes and it should be ok. If the folder appears "yes" then it is not a network problem and no need in restarting HDX or computer

I encountered something similar with my Unitiserve SSD with the share folder being lost and the Unitiserve seemingly stuck in scanning mode.
After quite a bit of digging, I found a number of references to the "web address help" facility provided by BT and many other ISP services (seems to afflict Sonos) - this (referred to as a Barefruit service) can be disabled. The apparent reason it affects the local network was quoted as follws "if the router runs a DNS server which also handles local name resolution, it turns out that web services like this can mess things up for hardware devices like Sonos which are expecting a standard error code to be returned so that they can do a retry"
All I can say is that since doing this a few months ago, the connection has been solid......posting this will no doubt bring the gremlins back out to play!

It seems you are right, I had changed my dns servers from my isp standard servers to OpenDns, and of course this was reversed back when I performed a hard reset, and the problem reappeared when i enabled OpenDns again.
Your post was to me at least rather confusing but this wikipedia post cleared things up for me:

first of all, a big thank you to all you guys who took the effort to dig into this matter!
A reset of the router and/or a shut down of the HDX with the back switch apparently did the job!
