BitPerfect and nDAC
Posted by: RobH on 31 July 2012
Hi, I'm new here, but have been a regular visitor and the discussion/advice has been invaluable to me. I have a new Mac mini running BitPerfect with a Naim DAC linked optically with a Wireworld Super Nova 6. In BitPerfect preferences, there is no indication that the external DAC has been found. The midi settings also do not show the DAC. Is it that the DAC takes total control and I therefore dont need to setup BitPerfect or midi, or have I set it up incorrectly.
Thanks in anticipation
regards Rob

There won't be - its S/PDIF via toslink so the computer is sending the data stream to the DAC. No interaction between them takes place and so the computer won't know what is connected to it.

James thanks, therefore the DAC optimises/maximises the signal.
The BitPerfect email adress is just bouncing emails at the moment and so I couldnt get an answer there.
again many thanks

Hi Rob - its still worth using - not used it myself but had good results with Amarra and Pure Music when i was using a Mac 'n' Dac combo. I've heard good things about it though.
I'm sure there are some other bitperfect users who will pop up and comment.

The best thing about BitPerfect is the automatic bitrate and word depth changing. I find it works well.
In Audio Midi you just need to have set to "built in output". BitPerfect takes care of the rest.

One last question, the sync light won't come on on the DAC I assume.

The sync light should come on when the DAC is doing it's stuff. If you play higher bit rate files then the hd light will also be on.
