Very sad news.

Brutally devastating and a tragic loss.  My heart goes out to her family.

Mihaela Ursuleasa was not one of the crowd but a very rare and special musician.  She has been compared to Clara Haskil and I think rightly so.  You could hear clearly that she always strove to get to the heart of the music and along with her vivacious character, she was one of a kind.  She could bring so much joy, emotion and drama to whatever she played.  All attributes any lover of music understands but leaves musicologists cold.

RIP

My thoughts go out to her young daughter and family.

Very sad and tragic news.

Seems strange for such a sudden death of someone so young.

Wonder what caused the cerebral haemorrhage?

Despite that this documentary is in German, I think anyone could benefit from watching just the musical examples alone.  I only first heard Mihaela play about two years ago.  It took only about 2 seconds to hear that she was one of these rare souls who understood the balance between intellect and finding the heart and soul of any music she played.  Too much (or all) intellect obviously kills any music.  There is no shortage of intellects in this world already.  Her body language was connected to the music and vice versa.  Her life was music and music was her life.  They were inseparable.  You do not have to see her to hear this; if you listen closely your ears tell you this.  Just listen to her PianoForte cd.  From the first few bars of Beethoven's c-minor variations, you can hear the character and that this is no ordinary player.

Her talk on Mozart's Jeunnehomme Concerto was my favourite part here.  They did a wonderful job with this video comparing a young Mihaela playing and then switching to her playing that today.  It was hilarious how she contrasted the deep and gut wrenching Andantino with the somewhat frivolous Presto.

This was published just at the end of May 2012.
