Farewell ..........(for now)

Posted by: Pedro on 04 August 2012

I've been a Naim owner for nearly 25 years. Until very recently I would never have imagined being without my Naim based system, having started with a 62/90 many years ago and moved slowly up the Naim ladder. However, two heart attacks can change priorities somewhat. I'm grateful that I'm here to reflect on what happended to me and to have the opportunity to make some life changing decisions. Some aren't so fortunate.

In order to implement some of those decisions and help better secure the future for my wife and young children, I decided to part with my entire system. The task is now complete. I have to admit I wasn't sure I could do it. Parting with my wonderful SL2s and the LP12 was especially tough for me.

I plan to start over again at some appropriate point in the future and look forward to getting on that first rung of the ladder with some anticipation.

I had assumed I'd continue my almost daily ritual of checking in on Hi Fi Corner, occasionally passing comment; but I'm finding it difficult to read about so many wonderful things going on in the world of Naim without being constantly reminded I'm no longer a part of all that's happening.

There are many wonderful people who frequent this forum. I've even met one or two and would consider them friends. So it's farewell for now. I sincerely hope I'll return one day if my plan prevails. Thanks for your wisdom and friendship.

Hello Pete, as a relative newcomer to this forum I admit I don't know you, but I'm not a newcomer to life and its problems and the power of music to bring peace to a troubled world.  I hope your world finds that peace again soon and look forward to knowing you better when you come back to the forum.  Kindest regards, Roger

Hi Toby .....Secretly I'd always hoped somebody had. Thank you.

Peter ... It was our recent chat that motivated me to post something about this. Hope you had a good holiday BTW. I'll phone you sometime soon. It would be great to hear how much your system has improved and to hook up with you and the other members of the unofficial SL2 fan club again.

Stu ... I thought you'd spotted my tt our there despite the fact I'd never posted any pics of it anywhere. Peter and Ian had created a wonderful tt out of my 1990 example and I certainly do miss its superb musicality. One day though, as vinyl will always be my prime source and Naim my amplification and speakers.

I think all the good wishes and support I've received are indicative of the strong 'community' that is bound together by music and Naim hi-fi. It's something that makes this particular forum a cut above....

Hi Pete I'm a relative newcomer to the forums but have read and appreciated your posts. As the other posters make clear - there's a lot of goodwill out there. I'm hoping you still enjoy your music - no matter what it's played. All the best Jon

Should have said: No matter what it's played on. Cannot edit with the iPhone.

Peter,

Sorry my above post was more system based.

Get well soon man.

Get the biggest  Tropical fish tank you can fit in your room,Fill it with loads of real plants. Top/ middle and bottom feeding fish.

It does wonders for ones heart rate.

Its a fact ,it can get your heart rate right down more than anything else in life just looking at it.

Hello again Pedro,

Just for your interest, your LP12 will continue to be looked after very well. Michael brought her in to see me again last week, and now she sports a Tiger Paw top plate and new Akiva .

Hello Pedro.

Sorry to hear about your heart problems. I wish you all the best in the time to come!

Now - get yourself a Nait 2 and a pair of Gemme Tonic G3, an unfussy Rega turntable with a nice MM Pick-up (a Naim ND5XS will also do), and you will be in for a treat whenever you feel like tapping your feet.

Best wishes,

Peter

Hi Peter

Thanks for the update. Those are the very two upgrades I'd planned for. It's always pleasing knowing that kit you've cherished for so long goes to a good home. I think that was the case with every piece I sold and I had great pleasure in meeting one or two forum members to boot. Even my Honda Blackbird found a home with a Naim owner.

Bet that LP12 sound out of this world now!!!

Thanks again to other forum members for their good wishes. I think the time has come to sign off now...but I plan to return ... one day

Peter

No need to leave it too long! RP3, Nait 3 and Sats provided you've still got the LPs

Very best wishes for the future Peter.
