Song California Dreamin' does not sound correct

Posted by: CSI_Basel on 07 August 2012

I ripped the Forrest Gump soundtrack and the track 'California Dreamin' does not sound correct. The female vocal has been reduced to a whisper compared to the male vocal. So there is no harmony.

I then ripped the cd on my laptop using Poweramp and played the song on the laptop. It sounded as i expected with the male, female vocals harmonising together.

I then put the track onto a usb key and played it on the Superuniti. Again the same issue with female vocals reduced to a whisper compared to the male vocals!

How weird is this?...

Vey weird.. When you play the track out on the USB can you check it's not coming in out in mono?

I ripped the cd first with the Unitiserve and i don't there is an option to rip in mono..

I have since found a flac copy of the song on the internet and i downloaded it and put it onto a usb drive into the back of the unitiserve. Played the track through the Superuniti and again exactly the same issue - male vocal only.

The internet track sounds fine on the laptop but i notice that male vocals are on the left speaker and the female vocals are on the right speaker on the laptop.

So it seems the Superuniti is splitting the male vocal so it comes out of both speakers but is ignoring the female vocal.

So strange, only time i have noticed a problem with a rip.

Sounds like you have a balance issue. Perhaps the interconnect is knackered?

The simplest explanation is usually the right one!

Cheers Garyl!!

The right red speaker cable was not plugged in properly. The cleaner was here yesterday....

All well again in Naim land
