Unitiserve behavior?!?

Posted by: ender25 on 10 August 2012

I recently changed a NDX5 XS with a Unitiserve 1GB and i have a few perplexities.

-When i rip a cd and try to do other things like listen to music I get Errors and the disc freezes inside the unit.To eject the disc i have to softwere shutdown the unit and sometimes restart it a few times to

eject it.

-What is the normal temperatures ? My unit show 51° C HDD, 55° CPU and 60° C Arm Processor. Does the unit have a safety temperature protection?

-A few times when I played ripped cd , the unit freezes a few second and reads the same 1 and 2 seconds and then skipes.

I strongly recommend not trying to rip a cd and play music at the same time. When ripping a cd, don't ask it to do anything else.  I don't think that the unit is really designed to do that (I haven't read my owners manual in a while) and I am sure it puts a lot of burden on the processor and hard drive.  I am not surprised that it skips when that happens.

When i ripped the cd I did nothing with the unit in the same time.

When I ripped my <3000 CD's I frequently played music from it, as I had sold my CD player. Never experienced a problem and cannot say that there was any impact on sound quality.

I have the SSD version and was therefore ripping and playing from a NAS.

Ender I am sorry but were you, or were you not, ripping a cd and listening to music on the uServe at the same time.  Your first post says you were.  Again, I do not think that that is a reliable way to use the uServe.

My reported temperatures are similar; my processor temperature reports 57 but I have not used it to play or rip music all day.

When Phil is back he'll probably have some thoughts, but I suspect that ripping to the internal HD and playing from it at the same time may be different.
