Tribute to a Giantess

One of the very few women in this famous photo:

...is having a documentary film on her life released this fall.  "In Good Time, The Piano Jazz of Marian McPartland" will be screening this fall - I would love to see it.

Heard a really good feature on NPR this morning about it, and I have enjoyed her program for years.  Just thought the jazz heads might want to know about it!

She is 94, and only did her last show in 2010...and remains the artistic director of the show.

Thanks for the heads-up Doc!  Looking forward to this documentary very much!

And don't you just love this poster?  Would be pretty cool to stop by this brownstone on my next trip to NYC, and imagine the day when these great musicians showed up...

They gave the story of the assembling of the crew for this picture, and they were none too happy as a group to have to be up by 10:00 AM - an ungodly early hour for a jazz musician back in 1958!

I "stole" that pic off the internet and printed and framed it - when I get my real music room up and running some day, that will be in there for sure!

Thanks for the photo and the link. I caught the feature on NPR this morning. Very well done I thought.
