iPad Lap Stand

Got an iPad? Like to use it on your lap?

I've been looking for a good lap-rest for some time and found the 'Rain Design' iRest.

Not cheap at £45 from Amazon, but it arrived today and it's a peach. The design raises up the iPad a few inches, which I've found necessary to avoid a pain in the neck - it sits very comfortably on the lap with the ability to angle the perspex 'leg' as required - there's a cut-out in the supporting slot to access the 'Home' button when used in portrait mode, and another cut-out to allow the speaker to be heard.

I have an Apple Smart Cover, and the soft rubber supporting slot of the stand is wide enough to accept the additional thickness when the cover is folded back. It folds up neatly too. An excellent design.

Recommended.

Hi JN,  not wanting to rain on fireworks, but I for one would be very interested indeed to hear what you think of this in another 2 or 3 days. It looks good and I can relate to your initial enthusiasm, but it also looks like the kind of device that could become uncomfortable after a while.

As I said, not wanting to take anything away from your first reaction, just want to know if that opinion lasts, before I bang out 45 smakeroos.

Thanks.

Greetings RJ,

The 3 'tubes' which sit on one's lap are made of a soft foam type material, covered in a rubbery finish, so are very comfortable.

I made sure to read a lot of customer feedback before purchase. I wasn't about to part with £45 easily either. But yes; I take your point. One cannot be sure without actual prolonged use.

John,

That looks pretty neat. My wife was commenting only last night that some kind of support would be useful, as I was thrashing her again at Scrabble!

Thanks for the info.
