Unclegaz, I would call Naim support directly. My guess is do you have admin priveldges on your computer account login?, but I am sure Naim can support you better

This is Windows preventing you from hurting yourself ...
If, when you gets to the end of the installation and the tick box has been ticked to launch streamer updater and you press ok to launch the application the some installations of Windows appear to give this error - most dont.
This error is due to admin rights on the computer. If you press OK on the message and launch the Upgrader from the Streamer updater icon it is fine.
To avoid seeing this message from the end of the installation, leave the box unticked so not to launch the updater immediately.

Still no AirPlay… think I'll wait until version 4 (or whatever) and take my Uniti into my dealer (concerned that there might be bigger changes required to make that happen).

Is there a how to guide for the n-stream? I've created a playlist but can't find the option to play it It doesn't appear in the playlists option but I can add tracks to it when I click on the individual track - I see it as an option.
You add tracks to your play queue which is a temporary list of tracks - it only becomes a playlist when you save it so you need to save the queue before it appears in your list of playlists.

just updated without any problem. However nStream now messes up with album order. I use asset upnp and prefer the album order "album by artist" for alphabetical artist order first and second by album. But nStream ignores that now. I get always the alphabetical album order only - but I don't like that with unsorted artists. I just can switch to artists, but then I can't see all album covers directly.
Does someone knows how to work around? I couldn't find an additional setting in asset controls.
To give an alphabetical list and the ability to jump to a letter directly we have to sort the list and hold the list locally - this obviously cannot work with a list with nested alphabetical sorting as per your "album by artist" option in Asset.
To get round this please select the "UPnP compatibility" option in the setup screen of nStream and it should work as it used to.

Mine is 1000x1000 but the artwork shown on the track playing now looks like a scaled up 150x150. Double checked the uPnP control point settings and also cleared the cache in n-Stream. Was fine on 3.0 previously.
This is on iPad3. Anyone else got this issue?
Same here, artwork is now horribly downscaled and looks butt-ugly.
Scrolling the already retrieved artwork in album/artist list is now sluggish, too.
Reduced resolution + slower navigation speed = NOT an improvement in my books.
Also, there's still no input selection/mute via System Automation for preamps.
Other settings' "Show volume control" is there but why not include one for recording/headphones too? Just take a look at Narcom and include it's rudimentary features into N-stream, like yesterday!
I listen to albums so the playlist support isn't a big deal for me. Too bad I can't downgrade n-Stream. And what about the vaguely promised & forgotten Airplay support... Was it just to sell 192k upgrade boards?
Setup
- NDX (192kHz upgraded) with latest 3.16 firmware.
- n-Stream 3.1 on iPad3
- Asset UPnP (no resize, image sizes between 500x500 - 1024x1024)
Looks like I need a board update or a new streamer.
Yep - looked at the instructions - nope I don't have and will not give houseroom to a Win PC.....
Yes I do need the new streamer board - do I upgrade my Uniti or trade in? SuperUniti?
Tog
Hi Tog,
Why do you need a new board? I'm sure you must know someone with a Windows laptop (or even a Windows PC that you could take your Unit to) to do the update?
Cheers

Please try the "UPnP Compatibility" option on the setup screen ... this should revert operation back to how it was.
Airplay was never scheduled to be included in this update.

Re the various comments about not being able to do the upgrade with a Mac - my glass half full view of the world would be I think it's a rather wonderful thing that we are now moving to a world where we can update bits of of our hi-fi at home at no cost. Cannot do that with my CD player, turntable, amp, speakers, etc.
I can see why Mac only folk have frustrations on this, but easiest thing for Naim would be to stick with old world support model and have us take our kit back to the dealer for a paid upgrade. So from me big credit to Naim for moving in this direction.

Thanks, Phil!
Looks like all 3.0 functionality is restored with the compatibility option.
The option's warning is quite misleading as the n-Stream's operation is much faster using the "legacy" protocol. Artwork's intact also. Please include this option for future updates, too.
About the Airplay schedule.. It's really hard to stay up to date with Naim's mixed signals about it. So, where are we at currently?
Cheers,
M
really happy about the update here in germany :-)
but
the playlists sent from asset upnp like top albums new albums etc are now gone is there any possibility of getting them back without going back to version 3.0?

The new functionality departs from the UPnP specs and the nStream app becomes the control point so you may find that you do not wish to use the new functionality.

There should be no mixed signals at all - Naim have never made any announcements that Airplay support would be released at a specific time or included on a specific hardware platform. We are aware of Airplay and continue to evaluate it but at this time it is not appropriate for inclusion into our products.

But i wish to use the new functionality. but i also want to have the option to see the most played albums and to see the newest albums i put into my collection is that possible?
Hi Phil,
Tried what you suggested. Brilliant, thank you Sir. Having a quick listen now and I would agree with Simon that the upper ranges are sweeter and crisper.
I have one further issue. Now the app on my iphone says 'server not responding' , any ideas?

Please try going to the setup page on the nStream app and reselect the streamer...?

All working :-)

Huh? What?... this is the world of software you are talking about. Remote update is to be expected as a minimum. No big credit required.
That's what I decided over a year ago. sounds great, software updates without a hitch and serves to play other media. it was set up in a few hours and has been playing music and movies ever since.
I did spend a couple of months researching, auditioning and planning first though.

I recall Naim's Paul Stephenson hyping about Airplay in more than one media interview.
What HI-FI (Sep 2011):
"The new board also adds 802.11n Wi-Fi capability to the systems, in addition to the current b/g (although Naim still says wired networking is preferable in terms of stablity and reliability of signal). The new board also makes them, Stephenson says, 'AirPlay ready - at least in terms of processing power'.
Pressed for clarification, he said he expects products fitted with the new board - and of course the new ND5 XS and SuperUniti - to gain full AirPlay capability during the first quarter of next year, this being implemented via a simple firmware upgrade at that time."
To me statements like that and the current "denial" is definitely mixing signals.
Even if it hasn't been officially announced, I think customers have been lead to believe that the upgrade board would enable Airplay in "near" future. Or am I just being naive?
Cheers,
M
Agreed, that also pushed me over to the nd5xs. Albeit..I would have probably ended up with one anyhow.
Hello all
Naim are developing a native mac application for updating these products as I type. i'll be inviting people to join a beta testing program once its more stable

My point is these hi-fi products for listening to music on. It surprises me that some folk seem to judge the worth of based on how easy it is to update the software, rather than how good it is at playing music. Sure it would be great if you could update on a Mac or even better directly over the net, but seems it some perspective being lost in some quarters.
Just trying to put my perspective out there so Phil sees balancing opinions as well :-)
