Thanks Phil. I can see my playlists here but not in the playlists folder? Does that sound right? If so what's the fastest way to access a user created playlist?
Where's 'here'?
Phil
Back from hols today so decided to install the n-stream update. All went smoothly except for the previously reported Fault 36 on-screen error. Power off for 30 mins over lunch and back on again seemed to resolve this issue. Browsing on iPad2 is much quicker, playlists now at last and sound of the ND5XS seems even nicer than before. Overall very happy

I can see my playlists in the play queue area but this a pain to navigate to - we have a playlists section as one of the primary filters on the n-stream but my playlists don't appear there they appear on play queues which I can only access after I've picked a track to play - hope that makes more sense. Hence my question about how to access them easier.
I hope you're mixing up your terminology when you refer to playlists and play queues otherwise I am rather confused about what you're describing...
You have a play queue which you can add tracks / albums to as either putting them to the end of the queue or as the next item.
Once you have a play queue that you want to save as a playlist for later then hit the button at the top right of the iPad screen to get you to the "Now Playing" display and swipe right (and touch the "Play Queue" button at the bottom left if necessary) to get to the "Play Queue" screen.
To save the play queue as a playlist then hit "Add to..." and then pick either "New playlist" (and specify a playlist name) or choose an existing playlist to add the current play queue to.
If you now go to the "Playlists" display then you should see your new playlist.
Does this not work for you? If not, what part can you not do?

...or are you meaning that when you pick a UPnP server then the very next page shows you (for example):
Artists
Albums
Playlists
Browse Folders
(etc...)
In this case the "playlists" option there is generated by your UPnP server and is nothing to do with "us" so it won't have any concept of the playlists that are stored on your iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch, only the ones that are stored on it.
Cheers
Phil
Thanks for your patience Phil.
With regards your most recent post - that does explain why the playlists I've created aren't in there. I didn't realise that was generated by the server.
With respect to your previous post on creating playlists - I have created my own based on your instructions but I'm trying to find a way of navigating to them quickly - currently I access them in the same way that I create them - is there a short cut to them without having to play a track and swipe to access?

With nothing playing then you should just be able to hit the button at the top right (that looks to me like a couple of circling electrons with no nucleus) to get directly to the "Now Playing" screen and then swipe sideways to the Play Queue / Playlists screen?

> No underlying OS - presumably Linn do - anyone know? Tog
Linn uses a Linux derivative as far as I know (Linn Unix)
I'm delighted to hear my UQ has no underlying OS ... as when i typed its IP address in to Safari I was alarmed to see a dot asp extension rather dot htm ... [quite why the evil empire christened its web content apple server pages is beyond me] .. still it is good to know my UQ is safe and virus immune.
Has anyone else had this or have I got something wrong somewhere?

Yes I have this on my iPad 3 but I have never used this view before now so don't know if it was the same in version 3.0 or not - too late to find out now. Have you had a look to see if 'Compatability Mode' is any better ?

Thanks for the reply. It's not just me then. It was fine with the latest version up to the update on Wednesday this week. I don't really want to use Compatibility Mode as you lose the play queue. I think it must be a bug with nStream? I suppose all I can do is talk to my dealer and hope it gets resolved.

Hi Phil,
I've noticed that with the new N-stream and firmware 3.16 on a NDX using Asset UPnp it's sometimes necessary to choose to play a song twice to get it started (it first says connecting and nothing happens and when I try again it will play the song), this never happened with the old N-Stream/firmware. I think that disabling upnp compability mode cures the problem but then the playlists are of course not available and navigation happens a lot slower.
One thing that I miss in the new version of N-stream (using the non-upnp compability setting) is the ability to play tracks without adding them to a play queue first. The reason is that the possibility of adding all the songs in a folder on the NAS to the play queue does not always appear (using Folders&Filename Browsing in Asset) and then it's as opposed to the old N-stream only possible to listen to all of the tracks in the folder by manually adding each of the songs to the play queue/list.
I fully agree with Klaver's post above. I have also noticed that there is a similar problem with the Streamed Radio stations and it sometimes takes three attempts to connect.
Thanks Guy - so if Linn in common with many electronics manufacturers use a small footprint Unix as their underlying OS rather than relying on the trickier firmware software updates - there is their advantage over Naim. Now I'm not saying Linn's software updates are trouble free but the approach has got to be more sensible in a technology area that is moving so fast. I wonder if the difference lies in Naim's DigiFi heritage? In addition naim could adopt the modular approach to hardware more extensively with user installed upgrades for the streamer DAC or DSP sections like NAD. An asynchronous USB upgrade board for the nDAC would be good.Tog
The SuperUniti (Uniti/Qute) manual states:
"SuperUniti external inputs or radio presets can be selected to become the alarm audio source. Note: The SuperUniti radio can only be used as an alarm signal using stored radio presets."
So it seems no UPnP option but the iRadio should work. However, make sure that you save the station(s) you want to use as a preset first.
hmmm..odd that my upgrade kept all my settings such as presets, but still.
Apologies if this has already been mentioned (I couldn't find it by searching) but I have a slight issue since upgrading to 3.16 and nStream 3.1.
If nStream hasn't been used for a few minutes when trying to access my library I initially get the message "Server unavailable" or if I am at the top "UPnP" menu then the message "No servers". If I wait, the expected lists do appear but can take anything from 10 to 30 seconds to do so (usually nearer to 10 seconds in fairness). If I keep using it everything works as expected - it is only when it hasn't been used for a while this occurs, although the period of inactivity can be as little as one minute. I would stress this is a totally new issue since upgrading and no hardware has changed.
I would also add that full and immediate access to my library is always available directly via the NDX itself using its own remote.
Does anyone know why this is and if I can cure it?
I am using NDX (3.16) and Asset uPnP running on a Zoneripper. These are connected via a Netgear Switch which in turn is connected to a Virgin Media Superhub. I repeat that no hardware has changed since the upgrade however. nStream is running on an iTouch.
Many thanks
Steve
P.S. I have tried turning EVERYTHING off and on again!
Playlist advice please.
I have a playlist or two on JRiver Media Centre 17. Historically I could choose the playlist and press play. My NDX would play through the playlist. I can still do that by going to my NDX and using the front panel.
When I use the updated version of nStream I have to queue the first song and then it will not play further songs in the playlist. Once the first song in the playlist is set playing on the NDX itself then I can control the songs - skip, go back with my iPad.
I even think I got it to play a whole playlist but it was such a chore I can't work out how I actually did it.
So, can I play a JR17 playlist from nStream or can I drop the whole playlist in to a playlist on nStream. if I can, how do I do that? My JR playlist shoe up correctly in nStream.
Thanks

Have just tried it without success on my NDX.
it is one of the newer ones with a mini USB socket and havingpurchased a suitable lead i felt quite confident.
The file downloaded to my laptop and opened ok but then stalledafter connecting them together with nothing appearing in the com port drop-down box.
Tried reboot but to no avai so anybody with ideas would be gratefully received.

Ray,
You could try a different lead. Although I use an RS232 convertor I have to use a couple of extensions to get from my PC to my NDX. The first time I carried out an upgrade one of the leads just did not want to work. I swapped it out for a different one and then the options showed in the drop down.

Actually, this brings us to a question I wanted to ask: can someone pont me to the USB-RS232 adapter which Naim recommend - I haven't found it listed on their website. Also, has anyone successfully upgraded using a Mac running XP under VMWare Fusion?
Ray
Have you checked Windows Device Manager to see if your USB device is present?
Under Windows 7, Click the Start Ball, Control Panel, System, Device Manager or if you have a conventional keyboard press and hold the Windows Key and press the Pause/Break key then click device manager.
Good luck
Sean
In the US I have found this:
Gigaware® 6-ft. USB-A to Serial Cable
Purchased at Radio Shack for $40. It has a chip in line I believe. Works well for me updating from a MAC running VMware Fusion and XP.

I wonder if the difference lies in Naim's DigiFi heritage?
<<SNIP>>
Hi Tog,
The DigiFi platform is server side - there is no DgiFi "heritage" to the Uniti or ND series products which are the subject of this thread.
<<SNIP>>
In addition naim could adopt the modular approach to hardware more extensively with user installed upgrades for the streamer DAC or DSP sections like NAD.
<<SNIP>>
You mean like allowing earlier 24/96 units to be upgraded to 24/192? Or allowing the option of DAB/FM tuners or not? I don't think we could have gone much more flexible and updatable with these products whilst keeping the design practical and manageable.
Cheers
Phil
