Tuning a SuperUniti

Posted by: berlins_waterfront on 22 August 2012

Hi naim community,

it's my first post and I hope what I want to talk about is a new topic to the community. I want to talk about small steps to increase the sound quality of the SuperUniti. How does have experiences in tuning a SuperUniti?

Since June, I have the SuperUniti at home and I did test a lot of things to increase its great quality. At the moment I am using the SuperUniti with two Canton Vento 802 speakers and a Synology DS 412+ NAS. In the nearer future, I like to buy new speakers, but I am not sure, which speakers it will be. At the moment, number one on my wishlist is the Audio Physic Tempo 25.

For the LAN connection I am using MeiCord cables. I've tried around 10 different network cables and they did the best job. One Sommercable was close to their quality, but I it was also twice as much as the MeiCord Cables. So, the MeiCord cables stayed.

An increase in quality werebfly audio absorber, too. At the moment, I am combining the Master with my SuperUniti. It made an increase in clearness and bass. Using smaller products for the NAS, the connector stips and the speakers was also an great improvement.

In my ears, there was also an increase by using the Hifi Tuning Feinsicherung and the WA Chip. I don't know the chips work this works, but it's better.

As power supply, I am using the music line connector strip and the naim power-line. Both are good, to have a "real" naim sound.

What are your experiences?

Best

Not sure why you have not had a response yet, maybe just overlooked.

I have a SUniti + Nap200 + B&W805D's.  I bought it in March and I can

tell you there is a long time before it truly opens up to sing at its best.

For me that began in July and continued in this month...so 4 months.

If you want a list of improvements? Powerline and Fraim or Fraimlite.

I can't comment too much on the streaming side of things.

Jim, thanks for your reply!

It's good to know, that the SuperUniti needs time to be run in. At the moment, it sounds great. I don't know if it has something to do with the tuning chips and absorbers or if it is just the SuperUniti. But I think both are a good mix.

In my eyes, the Fraim or Fraimlite costs a bit much. Is it worth its price?

I use Audio Physic Tempos with my Superuniti and i love the sound!!  My Super is about 3 months old and getting better every week

Hi Iver,

I used four LS and four Line 2. Finally, I decided to go for four Master absorbers. They are very stable and they are also visually nice. After installing them I did hear a clearer sound, especially in the lower frequencies. Today I've orderd another pair - maybe two masters are better than one .I'll see.

@ CSI: Super! What feet did you buy for the pair of Audio Physic? And: Do you use the NACA5 cable?

It's only worth it if you can afford it.  I was reluctant to spend

the money but would never return the FraimLite shelves.

But maybe your chips etc work for you.

I have the spikes on the speakers, they were standard and the spikes are on small metal discs. Speakers are 6 yrs old and i have a stone floor. I use Chord Odyssey cable which my dealer said was fine.

I saw the new feet on the AP website and i sent a mail but there was no reply.

@ Basel: You should try the feet. They are great!

How do the Chord cables sound?

Being in Germany, you should go for the musicline Powerigel Plus. I bought it and it made a huge difference to my system !
This obviously has nothing to do with th SU though

I've already got the powerline cable and only one naim device .

Fraim, Powerline, cable dressing & NACA5 5 m runs & that's all I did for my SU!

What do you mean with cable Dressing?

Posted on: 25 August 2012 by jobseeker

Naim are very serious about cable dressing. If you do a search you'll find several references to it. It's all about keeping mains and signal cables awa y from each other, hard surfaces and things like that. Some people value it more than others.

At the Moment, i am a bit shocked. I just connected the transformer of my Synology NAS with a PowerLine cable, which is directly connected to a power socket. And as I started to play some music... I was in Heaven... Are these really my loudspeakers?
