PC needed to set-up / update NDX?

Hi

Am I right in thinking I'd need a PC to set up and control/update an NDX? I'm a Mac user and don't want a PC.

Thanks

There are two replies to this:

1. You can get a laptop for 10% of the price of the NDX and it does lots of extra stuff beyond controlling and updating your NDX, or;

2. This is clearly an issue for a many potential customers and Naim need to pay more attention to catering for people who expect expensive gear to be easy and convenient to install, operate and maintain.

Both views are valid, but I think the issue arises because Naim always go for sound quality over convenience and have to work to a budget.

I whinged about the software upgrade process on another thread earlier today, but if Naim offered an easier route that compromised sound quality, I know what I would choose.

Hi Monty -

Yes, today you need a PC.  However, a Mac version is being developed...

You can call Naim and ask, but typically they will not answer questions about when new features will be released.

New firmware just came out, so if you buy an NDX soon, make sure it is at level 3.16.  This should keep the NDX current for some period of time, and hopefully long enough for Naim to deliver their new Mac-based updater.  If that project is for some reason delayed, you could always bring your NDX to your Naim dealer and have them do the updates for you.  The whole process shouldn't take more than a half an hour or so.

Good luck!

Hi Hook,

That thread appears to deal with software updates. Are they developing a Mac DTC and browser for the servers, do you think? I would need all three before I considered dumping the laptop.

HI Keith -

When Harry had his factory tour a few weeks back, he learned that DTC for Mac was under development:

If this is important to you, you might want to call Naim and ask them to confirm it.

Some manufacturers now provide a SD card slot for future updates. Simple and idiot proof. Tog
