Asset UPnP - Compilations

I'm having a few difficulties with getting the tags right on compilations with Asset. When browsing under album title some comps are listed multiple times by artist. I do have the compilation tag checked, so that's not the problem. And I can fix the problem by deleting the Albumartist tag where this is the same as the Artist one. But I don't understand why this works, and if this is the best way to proceed with compilation issues. Thanks!

Nagoya, you might want to check what options you have selected in Asset for compilations. From memory you can get Asset to additionally add the artist to the track title for compilations. I disable that as it clutters the display on Nstream. Is that what you are referring to?

SinS, I have checked the options in Asset now and I don't think there are any problems there. I don't use Nstream at the moment. I was referring to the display on the Naim that I navigate with the remote—compilations sometimes show there multiple times by artist under the Asset Album list. Thanks!

Ah.. Hmm.. I have to confess unless I am setting up options or doing firmware upgrades  I don't really refer to my NDX display.. It's not that visible from where I tend to listen to my music from.. Perhaps others might comment.. Sorry

if you do have that problem with compilations only, try it with "various artists" tag in album artist tag and write in the track artist in the artist field only. Then it should work. If you sort now for album artist compilations are sorted unter "V" - various artists.

Yes, this is the key. You need to set the "album artist" field to the same thing for every track for the album to be properly grouped. You could use "various artists", "compilation" etc, or if the album is predominantly by one particular artist, then just use that artist's name as album artist for all tracks. The albums that have those infuriating "feat. xxx" attributions in the artist field need the same treatment.

however this doesn't work with the new nStream anymore if you want to use playlists. nStream ingnores whatever asset want to group/sort.

I decided to keep old functionality of nSteam because I can't live with this album mess-up. There is no real work around for that. I tried in asset a new class album artist and below that album. However this is not very comfortable.

So the described tag modification is true for old style nStream - for the new style it doesn't work.

Thank you for the replies. I can't sort for Albumartist as I only have the free version of Asset. What I have discovered now is that I can go to Compilations in Asset and as long as my tags are correct—set to Various Artists etc or left blank—I can select the complete album from there. Thanks!
