An innocent little story

Posted by: Massimo Bertola on 11 September 2012

I'm listening to internet radio and they are playing 10cc's I'm not in love.

This reminds me that years ago I bought my (first) XPS-2 and it was being sold by a young woman on behalf of her brother-in-law. She needed some help organizing the packaging and shipment so we exchanged a number of posts.

When she gave me her address it was where 10cc had their Strawberry Studios, so I mentioned this to her because I used to be a huge fan of 10cc. She then told me that her mother's best friend had been a secretary in those studios and hers was the voice saying Big boys don't cry in the song..

She didn't know the band or the song, yet... I felt amused and old at the same time.

+1 what a fantastic story thank you Max. I think I may have been listening to the same radio station today as I also heard 10cc I'm not in love

Ah, Stockport.... just down the road from where I grew up.

There was a music doc on BBC Radio a couple of years ago; The Record Producers:10cc.

The multi-track tapes of I'm Not in Love featured heavily, showing how the track was built up layer upon layer. It also featured said secretary. It's not on iplayer but may come back round on BBC Radio 6 one day. Well worth catching.

Thanks for sharing, Massimo!

When I was a 17 year old kid and the song came out, I always thought she was saying "Requesting quiet"...Wikipedia has her name; Kathy Warren.
