Coaxial Interconnects

Posted by: The Meerkat on 13 September 2012

Not sure if I should have posted this on the Streaming Audio forum, or the Hi-Fi Corner.

I am now the proud owner of the Naim Supernait and Unitiserve SSD. At present they are connected by a fairly cheap coaxial Interconnect. (Ecosse Reference, 'The Producer') which cost about £25. Which I doubt, is not doing the two units much justice. I would like to replace this interconnect. The first obvious choice would be Naim's DC1, or is there something better, for similar money £250-£300?

There are so many interconnects on the market, it would not be practical to demo them all. Please could members with a similar set up, point me in the right direction.

Many thanks

Hi David.  When I needed to buy sucn an interconnect to go between my UnitiServe and Naim DAC, I decided to eliminate the guesswork and buy what Naim designed -- the DC1.  It seems that the price is not a barrier for you, in which case I would buy the DC1 and forget it  Unless, that is, you want to make a project of listening to different interconencts and trying to hear a difference.  To the extent that there is psycho-acoustics involved, I satisfy the "psychology" part of that by believing in Naim's product.  Then -- I forget about it and worry about other things!  ha ha

Enjoy your new system,

Bart

I have one of the expensive chord coax cables, and a cheaper cable, I will try and find time in the weekend to hear if I can find differences. Expensive cables should be listened to for some time before you buy.

Hi Bart...Thanks for your reply.

Well, the price is, and it isn't, if you see what I mean. Since my post, last night, I have found retailer that still sell's my current Coaxial Interconnect. It sells at £19.99!!!! Which was originally purchased to connect my cheap Blu-ray player to my AV amp. If paying £250 for a DC1 makes the sound fantastic, then it will be money well spent and won't hurt my pocket quite as much. However, if it is only slightly better, or even negligible, then the money may be better spent on a Hi-Cap...Which then opens a new can of worms...yes I know!

What do think should take precedence, Interconnect or Hi-Cap? (Bearing in mind, that the Hi-Cap is over £1100)

Thank you Claus, that would be interesting to know what you think. Did you try the DC1 before the Chord?
