AAC streaming issues after 3.16 update

Posted by: Oliver P. on 20 September 2012

Hi all!

I am new to this forum and a liitle bit sorry, that my first posting here is about an issue, that i'm experiencing since i did the update to 3.16 on my UnityQute.

I did the update a few days ago and everything went fine. But now my Qute does'nt like to play certain AAC files streamed from my Netgear NAS anymore. Sometime it will play the files, sometime it won't. The message i get on the display is:

"Cant't Play - Unsupported File Format"

With 3.13 the same files worked perfectly. The same files played from an USB-drive works. FLAC also works without any problems.

The NAS is ok since other streaming clients do not have any problems. My Phillips NP3700 plays them perfectly.

Can anyone else confirm this behaviour with 3.16? Would be an important information before bringing my Qute back to my dealer.

Thanks in advance,

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

I have the same problem & no response from Naim (reported on 27th August).

Initially, I identified 154 tracks (out of c2,400) giving rise to this misleading error message. This was on both my Uniti and Qute.  DO NOT try to reload 3.13 as I did on the Qute. It is not possible & I had to send it back for repair.

Whist the Qute was away and Naim were silent, I continued to work on the problem. It went away when I change router. I was using an old Airlive model & now use a D-Link DSL-2780. My Uniti is WiFi connected.

I got my Qute back today and Naim had reinstated 3.16 rather than 3.13 as I requested. I found the same “Unsupported File Format” problem on the same tracks. The problem went away when I used WiFi instead of a wired connection.

Good luck.

Although my Unitiqute hasn't been upgraded, I had this problem with some flac files this week - seems to have been solved by switching from wired to wifi and then back again

Hi Marou,

Thanks for the tip which I just tried. Sadly, it didn't work here.

Hi all,

thanks for your answers. Tried out switching the network connect to WIFI and it didn't work for me. Switching back to also doesn't work.

I hope that the experts at Naim can repoduce this issue and provide a fix soon.

I'm also getting the same issue on 24/96 flac files after updating to 3.16. I've also found after updating that the n-stream client on my ipad times out when i use upnp yet the remote control can open it ok. Played around with settings and found that enabling upnp compatability mode got it working but I can't use play queues or playlists.

Is it worth starting a new sticky thread for 3.16 issues so naim can keep a track of current issues?

Hi all,

I had this problem with some of the first versions of the UQ FW (Unsupported file format with FLAC files). I thnk it was fixed than, because for some time - I think for about a year or so - it went away. Now I have similar problem, but I'm not sure if it is an issue after the 3.16 upgrade or some mess with my iOS 6 upgrade / n-stream / UQ. Anyway, my NAS is configured to turn off at mid-night and awake at 6 o'clock every day - unfortunately, after it wakes up I can't play any file - the track starts for 1-2 seconds and after that seems that the connections is cut and a message "No track is playing - press play to start..." appears on the display. Pressing play shows the media server. The only solution I found so far is to turn the UQ off and then on :-(. foobar2000 with the UPnP plugin plays the same files without any issues. I'm using an iPad 3 / iPhone 4 and the remote simultanously to control the unit and I think that the problem appeared after the upgrade of the i-devices to iOS 6.

Some statement from Naim regarding this issue will be highly appreciated!

TIA

what I saw now - if I initiate the playback via the RC the UPnP symbol is shown on the units' display and if I start it from i-device the playlist symbol will be shown. Interestengly, at the time the problem appeared this morning the same playlist symbol was shown on the units' display even I was using the RC. That's why I suspect some mess using n-stream and RC, but who knows...
