Beatles Remastered Vinyl
Posted by: matt podniesinski on 20 September 2012
I just received an e-mail alleging that the vinyl is finally arriving. Anybody else seen similar announcements?
Steve which album are you going try?
Graham.
Hi Graham,
I'm trying Sgt Pepper.
Steve
I ordered "Rubber Soul", "Abbey Road" and "Let it be".
DHL says arriving today (ordered at JPC).
Lets see...
Steve,
My maths might be wrong but What Records were only around £13 cheaper than amazon when one adds on there £8 P&P.

Kevin,
I've not received the LP yet. I'll let you know when I do.

Stu,
There's a good chance I may not buy the box set. If the pressing I try is good I may just buy the later LPs in stereo and wait for the mono box set. Most of the albums were primarily mixed for mono in the first place.

I think Revolver was the first but mono versions were still produced equally with stereo issues until Abbey Road. The 1st press mono issues 'kick ass' over the stereo versions of the earlier albums. I believe George Martin would master the album for mono and then leave his engineers to produce a stereo master from the mono version. These tend to be very left/right in their presentation. It will be interesting to see what the stereo versions of the early albums sound like with this new issue.

Thanks for that info Steve. I look forward to your review of the Sgt Pepper re-issue. Incedently I was not impressed with the SQ of the last Beatles CD re-issues, which at the time 2008/ 2009 cost in the region of £14.99. So £20 for the vinyl does not sound to bad if they are any good.
Regards Graham.
Graham,
is great for album history info.
Stu.
Thanks Steve, Guy, Stu and everyone else.
I really want to treat myself to this vinyl box, but £300 is a lot for me to commit to. Any reviews will help me make an informed decision as to whether or not to buy, and will be hugely appreciated not just by me but by many Forum members.
Look forward to reading the reviews.

P.S. Stu like the new Avatar.

Stu.
So, I arrived at home.
The 3 LPs I ordered arrived today.
Superbly packaged.
The vinyl looks awesome and I cleaned it with my VPI 16.5.

I compared the "Rubber Soul" (2012) to my German 1st pressing.
The 1st German sounds "muffled", maybe a little warmer...
BUT I am very very much impressed with what they put on the black stuff...
I really have to say that the SQ is fantastic. The separation of the instruments is very nice.
There is just "more of everything"...more "punch", more "soundstage"...good stuff.
You can hear the smallest details...nice bass...absolutely quiet vinyl, no stupid background noise.
Yep, done from digital sources but still worth every penny IMHO.
I will do a "direct" test with my 24bit USB-stick via the ND5XS and tell more...
Right now, I am a very happy customer.
"Abbey Road" sounds absolutely wonderful.
BLACKNESS in the back, very quiet.
I don´t care right now that they are done from a digital source.
For 26.99€ I have an awesome sounding record.
Right now, I am a very happy customer.
You are the Walrus goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob
More comparisons:
I like the vinyl-rips (24/96) of "Rubber Soul" on my ND5XS a little bit more, but not very much...
They are the "Austalian MONO LoudCut" and the "Red Wax MONO", but they are very very expensive and nearly impossible to get on vinyl.
Then I switched back and forth between "Maxwell...(Abbey Road) on the new vinyl, the 24bit and the vinyl-rip (24/96) of the "Pro-USE"-pressing on the ND5XS...very hard to say...the new vinyl is really really good.
Excellent value-for-money.
The USB-stick with the 24bit-stuff sounds "louder" and more "digital" to my humble ears.
I think they did an excellent job.
In the back I hear a very wonderful sound..."I want you...I want you so bad..." and it really sounds warm, fat, deep and kinda "analoque"...
More good songs to come...
Stu that's thats a brilliant name for a dog 'Colchester Brewery' . Its a very nice photograph of your son.
Regards Graham.
Graham,
He's not called 'Cochester Brewery' - he's called 'Rich Amber Ale'!!
