Posted by: matt podniesinski on 20 September 2012

I just received an e-mail alleging that the vinyl is finally arriving. Anybody else seen similar announcements?

To those who are lucky to have the new LPs I'd love to hear how you think they compare to an early pressing or even to the Love album on vinyl. I'm not too impressed with the SQ of the latter compared with the early pressings.

Thanks

BLACKNESS in the back, very quiet.

I don´t care right now that they are done from a digital source.

For 26.99€ I have an awesome sounding record.

Oh dear ML, you're starting to tempt me... I can feel £300 slipping away from me...

Now there is an idea!

I'll let you know SQ over the week end.

All the best,

Does anyone know how many box-sets are being produced for this issue release?

Debs,

I was told 50,000 worldwide.

Will buy the mono-box for sure.

My box has arrived. The book is beautifully produced, although you will have seen most of the photos before. With HMVs early booking discount, this set is good value IMHO .

Back in my normal persona, I can report that I have never heard Abbey Road sound this good since it's original release day on my friend's dad's Quad system. Before I had a chance to wear it out on my Garrard SP25, or whatever it was called. Mind you my new speakers are making everything sound better than I've had at home before.

If only I could feel this good every time I spent 280 quid. Malcolm

Malcolm,

Thats good news.

Are you still using the SME TT?

One for Stu.

Do you think a mono vinyl box set will be issued? If so when do you think it will happen.

Unrepentant SME20 and Superline I'm afraid. Actually, have recently done the Z-foil thing to the Superline, and with a change of cart. it's stopped thinking it's a radio.

Back on topic, my wife just came in on my guilty secret (no, the box set). Not only did I tell the truth about what it cost, after looking at the book, she said she thought it was worth it!

This is NOT the normal response to my hi-Fi purchases.

And the exciting nostalgia fest continues. It has to be on vinyl for me to trigger those deep memories.

Just been transported back to school when I played the newly released "the End" at my school lunchtime record club, and getting withering remarks from the others. Let's not forget, the Beatles were deeply uncool by the end of 1969.

I still reckon that I was right though.

Just look out for a new pair of shoes or handbag that will appear very shortly

Just been catching up on this thread, after reading MusicLovers early review I'm more tempted now than ever to bite the bullet and order the box set, I've never been very strong willed.

I heard also that this will be a 50,000 run, does anyone know if it is a case of once these are sold that is it or could they just press another batch? as I can't see 50,000 lasting long and I really don't want to miss out, Steve has your Sgt Pepper arrived yet?

Graham,

I have been told its a yes and around Easter next year.

They are not going to miss out on grabbing even more money.

This time in two months time check out the Stereo LP box set price.

Its going to go through the roof.

The book must be a limited run. I don't see that it would be practical to do another print run of such a lavish product.

Malcolm,

It might be worth you getting your daughter to bring a copy of the US box set back with her when she comes home for Christmas and not opening it.

Its going to be worth a bomb over here in a few months time.

Are you still playing live gigs?

Thanks Stu.

Think I am going to go for it. The reviews on here are all positive . So that's all good then. By the way how's Diesel Dog today?

Regard Graham.

Regard Graham.

I don't know how Diesel is today as she belongs to one of the Brewery owners and his wife.

I would think she is ok though spoilt rotten.

Thanks Stu, I can see the next few years being an expensive time as the resurgence in vinyl is going to see a lot of remastered releases, like the Massive Attack one I've just found out about. I really hope that the record companies catch on to the fact that most people that buy these remasters would ideally like the vinyl and 24bit version in one package, not the MP3 or even the Flac versions that they sometimes give now.

Then I would have to start looking at some more storage options

Not yet Paul. I'm waiting to hear from Richard on the SQ of the box set. We have similar systems and I trust his judgement. If he's enthusiastic about these reissues I'll cancel the single SP and buy the box set.

Just finished reading the excellent book, and it refers to the mono vinyl LPs. I reckon that box will have the same book. I think Stu is correct about these becoming collectible. I did think twice about cutting the shrink-wrap, 'cos I don't have the spare cash for another set. Many gigs this year, as have semi-retired from the tragic NHS and joined ( and left) several bands. Mainly Stax soul, but also jazz and some Pentangley stuff.
