Unitiserve will not update to 1.6d

Posted by: The Meerkat on 22 September 2012

Back in April, my Unitiserve would not update to 1.6c, using the iso disc image that I burnt, and also the disc that Naim sent me. Phil Harris from Naim accessed my unit remotely, and managed to update the unit manually. He did suggest at the time, that if it refuses to update next time, there could be a problem with the unit.

Today, I have attempted to update the Unitiserve to the new 1.6d, but it will not update. So, it looks like Phil to the rescue again.

Is anyone else have problems updating their unit? I have burnt several discs and gone through the rebooting process as per instructions, no end of time.

Thanks

Had no problems here - burned the ISO disk, the US read it and ejected it in under a minute, I left the US alone for 20 minutes and then powered it down.  When I switched it back on the Network found it all straightaway and the DTC confirmed it was now 1.6d.

The fact that your last software upgrade had similar issues does suggest there may be an inherent issue with your machine. Great shame - I have found the various server/streamer upgrades flawless but understand that others have had significant problems with upgrading software which is obviously very frustrating.

Hi Nick

Yes, I've heard that too. I attempted the upgrade in exactly the same order as you. I don't have DTC as I am a Mac user. But I can see the interface via the browser, which still reads 1.6c.

If Phil can't sort it remotely, I guess it will have to go back to Naim. Which is a pain, because the dealer where I bought it, was absolutely useless and unreliable. If the unit has to back via the dealer, it could be gone months!

After seeing the update describtion I have not installed it, the update seems to be very minor and not give any new functionality or solve problems.

Claus I reached the same conclusion -- I will not do it myself.  I did the last update myself with no problems whatsoever, but in my "old age" have learned that if an update promises no differences for me, with fixes to something that I don't ever use, there is no reason to even embark on it.  Not all incremental updates must be installed on any given piece of hardware.

However my 1tb uServe is about to go off for an update to the 2tb version, and the kind folks doing that work undoubtedly will return it to me running 1.6d

Hi guys.

You are both absolutely right, Claus and Bart. But it is clear that the unit is not behaving correctly. Had it been an important upgrade like the 1.6, Internet radio, automated back-up to NAS., then the situation would be a bit more serious.

I'm not too bothered about sending it back to Naim, just don't want to send it via my hopeless dealer.

Let's see if Phil can sort it.

Dave,

You don't have to return it via the dealer you bought it from, you can send it back via any Naim dealer you chose. You can confirm that with Naim if you wish.

Hi Nick

Just to make double sure that the ISO disc I have burnt, contains the correct folders and files, could you please tell me if the contents of your disc is identical to mine. At least then I'll know I've done my bit correctly.

From left to right, I have three folders. Desk Top Client, Manuals and Upgrade. If I open 'Upgrade', this contains five zip files. One of those is NSSRV_Upgrade_v1.6d.zip

Many thanks

Hi David

My ISO disk has the same three folders; the "Upgrade" one contains five 12,668kb files including NSSRV_Upgrade_v1.6d.zip.

As I said, it is such a shame because clearly these firmware updates can install perfectly in, I suspect, the vast majority of cases but cause such frustration for those where it doesn't work. Hopefully Remote Phil will sort you out very soon!
