Calling all illustrators/ designers/ graphic artists - Font Query

Posted by: dave brubeck on 28 September 2012

Hello All

I am trying to design a logo for a new business.  I found the attached image on the net, which is drawn by hand.  I am trying to work out what the font style family is so I can find more examples, if there is a recognised family at all.  Any help much appreciated.

I always come here with all manner of requests/ queries and always get helpful answers!  Wikinaim.....?

Hmmmm, looks rather Third Reich. Maybe look at the German originated typfaces.

And 'Victory' seems to be plugged in.......but I cant make out the text at the bottom???????

Cheers.

Hi Tony,

yes the text is in English, but I was thinking the Type Face was a German derivative...Fraktur or Gothic....but I don't know , just a stab in the dark.

There's an app for the iPhone (might work for Android too) called WhatTheFont which identifies a font using your phone camera.

No idea if it's any good but it's free so could be worth a punt.

Obviously not the one you're looking for, but perhaps you could have a look at this site (related to Kevin's suggestion I guess) to see if it feeds your inspiration:

http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/flat-it/dimensions/

Try to browse using the tags on the right; you can combine them in your search query.

PS: Sending your picture to this site to identify the font didn't give any useful result.

I find that font very hard to read. Are you sure it is a good starting point for your logo?

I Googled "Heavy Metal Font" (I'm sure I've seen similar on quite a few metal album cover) and clicked the link to 1001 fonts.

There's a  font called Swedie cruel that looks similar.

Good to know that, despite the recession, there is still room for another undertakers, tattoo/piercing parlour and/or Harley pimp shop.

I suggest searching German Fraktur fonts and the various types of Metal Fonts.  I'm fairly sur that I used to have this one or something very similar for my old Acorn RISC PC, but alas that machine is no more. It was part of a large collection of transcribed True Typr fonts IIRC.  I used to desgn a lot of posters for hospital pantos etc, hence had a large fonyt collection.

Victory or Death is a rather blunt motto for a hospital ! (Sorry couldn't resist...)

I hope that's not a disparaging remark about my treatment of my patients  ...

God, what a lot of typos in my last post.  Must have been tired.
