Electronica, anyone ?

Posted by: dis on 29 September 2012

My Naim system makes acoustic / rock / folk / alt country etc sound fantastic !

What really has been a revelation though is how it has taken electronica to a new level.

I listened to Pole (1: the blue one) last night - what a blast ... Wow, so  multi layered and textural.

Same with William Basinski, Pantha du Prince, Purity Ring, Tortoise, 310, Four Tet,  The Books , High Places etc etc

Anyone else found this ?

Really good shout re T.O.N.T.O. Zero time.

Thank you very much - I will be onto this first thing in the morning. I understand it to be essential listening.

Cheers

It does get much better with the possible exception of Delia.

Has anyone tried BLEEPs 55 track Guide to Electronic Music?

I can really recommend this ace sampler of the work of FC Judd:

More weird (well not that weird by his standards), Electoinca from Pierre Henry. He also added the electronics to Spooky Tooth's Ceremony album, which is interesting if strange artefact, and certainly not a match for Spooky Two. Nonetheless, Pierre was unique. I once had album by him call "The Death of a Door", which had 20 short tracks recorded on a squeaky door in a French church - for the most part he is uncompromising as Levitation and Le microphone bien tempéré.

I have still got my original LP of Zerotime which I bought when I was still at school but I wanted a copy of the CD as well.  I tried everywhere and some before I managed to track down Malcolm Cecil and obtained a copy.  Below is part of the email that he sent me.

A limited edition of 1000 CDs were made available to coincide with the Head Band’s live performance at the Big Chill Festival in the UK on August 5th, 2006. These are pressings (not burned copies) and were manufactured in the UK.

Most of them were sold at the festival but we have a few copies still available at this time.

You can order one from  our website www.tontosexpandingheadband.com

The CD contains all the tracks from "TONTO Rides Again" which is now out of print and was a CD reissue of our LPs "Zerotime" and "It's About Time" (except "Beautiful You"), plus this CD has a never before released bonus track “BITTERSWEET”. All tracks have been remastered from the original analog tapes and TONTO has never sounded better.

This is a collector’s item as there are no plans to press more than the 1000 CDs.

We are not clear as to where you want the CD to be shipped. We have a UK office that ships via Royal Mail and a US office that ships via US Postal Service and in both cases we charge a nominal $3 for shipping.

Once again, thank you for your long standing support.

Peace,
Malcolm Cecil

What a fantastic letter from Malcolm. I was lucky enough to buy a copy of the CD when it was issued - think it was through Amazon, but not sure. I also had the old vinyl Zero Time many years ago. Malcolm's music is wonderful - he was a true innovator.

All the best, Guy
