Vortexbox upnp with Qute

Posted by: thebiglebowski on 01 October 2012

I've just installed vortexbox on an old server I had going spare with 3 TB in RAID5.

I've started ripping my CD's and can see "vortexbox media server" in the UPnP section of n-stream but when I go into it there is nothing listed in music > album, all music, artist etc.

I have just enabled squeezebox on the vortexbox server and can see and play songs from "logitech media server [vortexbox]" so there are no issues with the rips. Have also tried running n-stream with compatability both on and off.

Am I missing something here?

Mind you, Squeezeboxserver is not UPnP. But as of version 7.x it has the option to also render UPnP. Make sure this option is enabled.

The vortexbox SBS is working fine with the Qute it's the vortexbox DLNA server that isn't being seen correctly by the qute.

That's what I'm saying. SBS works fine for the Squeezeboxes. But UPnP (DLNA) server function also needs to be activated in SBS. I don't think that Vortexbox will run yet another application alongside SBS in order to provide DLNA.

Have just tried to stop squeezebox and just have DLNA running but still doesn't see any music in n-stream (also tried restarting dlna service)

Guess the qute is just funny about what it works with.

The Qute should work fine with Vortexbox.

Mine did when I evaluated it and Tog is/was a big fan.

Try this:

In the DLNA control panel the audio file location default is "/storage/music/mp3" You probably need "/storage/music/flac"

The vortexbox forum www.vortexbox.org is really helpful. If you bought it from Small Green Computer, I've also found their support to be fantastic.

Yes, I had to change my Voetexbox storage address to 'flac' when I set it up with my SU. It's always worth going to the dlna icon in the web interface and picking 'rescan' if you get odd bits of missing artwork or other odd incoinsistencies.

Thanks that did the trick could see when i looked at the log it found no songs when scanning the mp3 folder.

This vortexbox is an amazing bit of kit, I think it creates a much better rip of the CD than dbpoweramp or XLD. It sounds really good via the qute. I can also use the n-stream in full mode without that compatability mode on.

I didn't purchase it I've built it myself using a spare HP ML115 G6 i had at home. Have just purchased a micro ITX home theatre PC case with intel celeron motherboard and will chuck in a hard disk and optical drive. The case looks really good so I can stick it on the bottom shelf of my isoblue rack (horizontal not vertical like the photo)

Works out a lot cheaper than buying a prebuilt box online, full cost should be about £280 for a 3 TB vortexbox.

Whilst nothing is perfect (there are some discs it won't rip, o sometimes the online dayabase can't identify a cd),I'm pretty pleased, for the outlay.
