iPod import settings
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 05 October 2012
I've just bought a iPod classic and have started ripping CDs to the laptop. Can anyone advise on appropriate settings to give good quality sound from the pod, using my Sennheiser phones. I guess lossless is too good and basic MP3 too bad, but here are all sorts of decoders and bit rates, so what's a good compromise?
Nigel - rip to a lossless format rather than a lossy format such as MP3. You can then convert to lower rates if needed. If you decide to do somthing else with the files later then you won't need to re-rip your CDs again.

Thanks James, that sounds logical. So how do I then transfer them to the pod at a lower size, and is there one you'd recommend? We can see why I stick to playing CDs on the stereo! I'm such a dope.
iTunes has an option to save to your iPod in AAC being Apple it just works
I recently bought a 160Gb Classic, in order to have music at CD quality.
I'm ripping in WAV, which means I ought to be able shuffle music around between the ipod and my NAS drive, which contains all my music ripped via the HDX...................once I can figure out how to do it!
Regards,
Dave.
Hi Nigel
With the iPod connected and under the Summary tab at the top of the screen there is a 'Convert higher bit rate songs to' check box. Suggest you select 256kps.

You may find the attached article informative about extracting the best sound via iTunes :
Great, thanks everyone. I'm sure I'll master it. The iPod is a lovely thing and so much easier to use than trying to master the awful Zune on a Windows phone.
Hi Nigel,
Trust you are making progress ripping your music to your new ipod.
Assuming you're doing it at CD quality, you need to treat yourself to a pair of headphones which will make the most of this.
Got hold of a pair of Shure SE 535's a couple of days ago..........quite expensive , but worth every penny spent.

Dave.
I wonder if we will ever see the Lord start a new thread "Ibbles do streaming"!
Ibbles do streaming, whatever next!! I use the Pod at work to allow me to concentrate and block out the office hubbub. I have some Sennheiser PX100 Mk 2 which do sound very good. Though I'm sure they could easily be bettered, they fold up small and are easy to carry on the train. Maybe one day all the music will sit on a NAS and an HDS will live in the sitting room, but for now the CDS2 suits me just fine!!
