How do you get new music?

Posted by: Jonas Olofsson on 13 October 2012

After ripping nearly 1000 cds last year after I bought my NDX, most of my new music added have come from down loading from iTunes and then, changing the format to WAW.

1. Is the quality of the music, doing it this way, highest possible or is it a better way to do it?

2. How many still buys cds a rip them?

3. Does buying a n-Serve help in any way except for the ripping part!

I love what the NDX do but are still a bit confused as anybody can see....

thank you in advance for any valuable tips.

i-Tunes are compressed, so no, you aren't getting the best quality. It's the reason people still buy CD (as I do) and rip from there.

I still buy records. For the digital source, I download hi-res from various places, mainly 2l, acousence, linn an theclassicalshop. Acquiring CD has remained the exception. Adca

Jonas, there are no lossless files available from iTunes.  When you convert to .wav, you're not improving their quality -- they are still lossy.  You're not supplying the best source material.

I buy a lot of used cd's from Amazon.

Hi Jonas, i can confirm Bart's reply. Buying from iTunes is not lossless but lossy. Converting onto wav will not help. Better is to either rip from cd's with a good ripping engine or buy lossless music from the wellknown websites like Linn, HdTracks or others.

goodluck,

Definitely ... one day iTunes and Amazon will offer quality downloads, but at the moment they don't.

For me it is vinyl records if available and CD if not ,,, Naim, Linn and few others do offer high quality downloads.
