Having problems with Asset, help please

Posted by: Nigel on 18 October 2012

Hi Everyone

I’ve recently upgraded to the Asset 4.1 premium version.  I generally use the Advanced Search/ Album Artist / Album to find what I’m looking for.  When I select this A-Z options are displayed as expected. Then, selecting a letter (A for example) move into the listings for A.  What now happens is Album art is being displayed against the Artist Name.  For example “Average White Band” cd covers against the listing for the Average White Band.  However, this is not the case for all listings and some have album art which does not appear to be associated with the artist.  For example, “Songbirds” (female artists only) cd cover associated with Aaron Neville. When you select one of these and move into the album listing all the album art is displayed correctly.

Has anyone come across this before?  I would greatly appreciate any advice to fix this issue, as it’s sending crackers.

Many thanks, in advance.

Hi Nigel -

In theory, the Asset option "Upstream Artwork" causes artwork from the "first discovered track" to appear next to an Artist or Genre.

I find this behavior distracting, so I turn it off.  In the config panel next to "Advanced Settings", hit the "Edit" button.  The option is listed under "General Settings" -- just remove the check mark and hit "Ok".  This will take you back to seeing a simple name list of Artists.

As Hook says this comes from the fact that Asset displays the first discovered artwork which sometimes pulls something that is not appropriate.

I found that often it was finding a compilation album first rather an album from the particular artist.

I've resolved this now by doing the following.

  1. Create a various artist directory outside of your normal music library
  2. Move all the various artist albums into this directory
  3. Add the new directory into Asset and make sure that it is listed after the main music library
  4. Restart Asset and rescan the library

When Asset rescans it will do the main music library first which just contains albums by single artists and it will pick some suitable artwork rather than artwork from a compilation album.

You can then turn the album art back on and get a nicer looking display!

That sounds a really good idea; I will give it a try.  Unfortunatley, I'm working today and through the night on a customer site so won't get chance to try this until tomorrow.  I will write back once I've given it a go.

Thanks for your help, its appreciated.
