Wine ratings....

0/10... Undrinkable poison (or corked) …a non-starter.

1/10... Horrible nasty tasting plonk. Best used for a sink waste cleaner.

2/10... Very poor effort, not enjoyable to drink but maybe used for cooking.

3/10... Grimace wine ...with too many concessions that leaves one wanting.

4/10... An okay wine with some virtues but far from good quality.

5/10... Good drinkable fair to middling wine but far from flawless.

6/10... Very good wine, drinkable. Would buy again at the right price.

7/10... Excellent wine, very drinkable and enjoyable.

8/10... Excellent plus wine, highly enjoyable, class!

9/10... A special wine with the most fantastic taste.

Ten!.. Perfection!

Just uncorked an Angel's Flight : )

"Rich, ripe Zinfandel from California packed full with delicious raspberry, strawberry and blackberry fruit flavours. Soft tannins on the palate compliment the classic varietal character."

California
Red - medium bodied
14.0%
100% Zinfandel

My previous bottles of this have been nice and this isn't bad either, this the has hints of liquorice…, it really needs to be decanted and goes without saying - room temp… and given some time (2 hours) to smooth out an otherwise cold hairy tongue after taste, can be very grizzly if opened up too cold [I know… I tried] Nice colour and good body but more than slightly strong.

When warmed up proper is very happy face drinkable though : )

score = 6/10

Just got back from Portugal (first time) and I was blown away by the quality of the wine for not many Euros.

Reserch needed back in Blighty.

Quite looking forward to trying these tonight (professionally, on a yacht in Monaco harbour!)

If you know - you know, and if you don't - you probably don't want to.

Or - put it another way - you could have Naim put in two of your Bentleys for the price of these six bottles.

Back in the late 1990's, I purchased a bottle of the Echezeaux and one of the Grands Echezeaux at my go-to wine store in Washington DC.  Back then they were, I believe, in the $300 range.  At least I can say I've tasted them.  Today, waaaay farther out of reach!

Slightly less pricey, 2013 Lidl Bardolino very good.

Soligamar Rioja Reserva 2009. Just £9.99 from Lidl - exceptional wine, and very good value.

The DRC wines all showed well, and the clients enjoyed themselves (phew!)

I've put some notes on the wines on my blog if you are interested.:

Been away from the forums on my summer sabbatical

I bought two dozen bottles, a dozen novas,

half a doz Italian Primitivo Stella 2012* + a few other allsorts of Red on the Primitivo grape theme.

The Novas cost £9.15 a bottle from local wine merchant.

* The Primitivo Stella 2011 is lovely but needed the keeping in for a year, only a few bottles left of that year, the 2012 will get hidden down my cellar to gather dust for a year or three

Santa Ema Select Terroir Merlot, Maipo 2012

Red - Medium

ABV = 13.5%

Merlot 100%

Drink now

£8.70 per bottle

A noticeable comedown from the Novas of last weekend, this is a bit sharp.

It's a little cold so maybe why, hoping it will warm and mellow out for tomorrow.

Cantele Primitivo, IGT Salento 2011

Italy

Red full round

100% Primitivo

ABV = 13.5%

This is very lovely, slightly dry hairy tongue feeling but very pleasant going on the taste buds.

I've opened it up without any warming [Temperatura di servizio 18°C] should have warmed it up to room temp. It starts to get a bit chilly in my cellar this time of year.

Pretty sure this will be even more agreeable tomorrow : )

Room temperature, of course, does not mean that of the overheated modern home. 18c sounds about perfect for a red. Reds are often drunk too warm, and whites too cold.

Bodegas Escorihuela Gascon - 1884 Limited Production - Malbec 2009

$25CAD, An exceptional Malbec at a great price. Fruity and more complex after it is able to breathe.

Today is the third Thursday in November...

Beaujolais Nouveau day.

I actually thought the Jadot wine is quite good this year.

A good Autumn perhaps salvaged a patchy summer in the way that will inevitably make it a vintage of the millennium in Bordeaux.

Beaujolais Villages Primeur 2014 Louis Jadot

A bit reductive on opening, but once this has blown off, the vibrant fruit starts to emerge. Cherry and cranberry aromas with just a hint of something a bit more earthy and rich. There is the classic cookie-dough scent of the just fermented, but it works here. The wine is light, crisp, fresh and appealingly flavoursome in a simple way. I’d still rather drink a good Fleurie with a year’s bottle age, but this year is a creditable effort for what cannot be regarded as an ideal vintage for the nouveau production methods.

Nice blog post.

I did get an invite to my "local" wine bar but can't get there until tomorrow. http://www.trou-au-loup.com/

At least they have live music on Fridays.

Thanks. I live alongside the/a River Loup, so there are a lot of Loup-y places round here too. My village is Colle sur Loup.

I don't know whether it's Wolf, Sea-bass, or something else coincidental in this case.
