Wine ratings....

0/10... Undrinkable poison (or corked) …a non-starter.

1/10... Horrible nasty tasting plonk. Best used for a sink waste cleaner.

2/10... Very poor effort, not enjoyable to drink but maybe used for cooking.

3/10... Grimace wine ...with too many concessions that leaves one wanting.

4/10... An okay wine with some virtues but far from good quality.

5/10... Good drinkable fair to middling wine but far from flawless.

6/10... Very good wine, drinkable. Would buy again at the right price.

7/10... Excellent wine, very drinkable and enjoyable.

8/10... Excellent plus wine, highly enjoyable, class!

9/10... A special wine with the most fantastic taste.

Ten!.. Perfection!

Just uncorked an Angel's Flight : )

"Rich, ripe Zinfandel from California packed full with delicious raspberry, strawberry and blackberry fruit flavours. Soft tannins on the palate compliment the classic varietal character."

California
Red - medium bodied
14.0%
100% Zinfandel

My previous bottles of this have been nice and this isn't bad either, this the has hints of liquorice…, it really needs to be decanted and goes without saying - room temp… and given some time (2 hours) to smooth out an otherwise cold hairy tongue after taste, can be very grizzly if opened up too cold [I know… I tried] Nice colour and good body but more than slightly strong.

When warmed up proper is very happy face drinkable though : )

score = 6/10

Winemaker Nicolas Bizzarri was the first Chilean to graduate from Australia's famous wine university, Roseworthy. He matured a small portion of the wine in old oak, adding a creaminess to the bright citrusy fruit. The wine makes a lovely partner for grilled white fish, salads or seafood.

Well.... I've only just decanted this bottle (only because the label told me to) and yet the aroma is quite superb. There's a depth I've not come across before, and to avoid sounding like Jilly Goolden, I'll stop there. RRP £30, but I think I paid £26 ish in Waitrose today. Over my usual budget, but I've just found my latest gift for friends. Tony

Italian - Tarantino 2011

Luscious dark fruity taste slightly dry good body [the wine not me] very good aperitif, easy warm room temperature and needs de-canting then left to settle for an hour. Score 7/10

Gotta be worth a swig just for having Tarantino in its name! I'll keep an eye open for that.

Beer is full of carbohydrates, it will make you belch, give you bad breath, smelly farts, and cause the beer-belly. I know this from blokes whom i have to work with

Red wine however has excellent anti-oxidant qualities so [in moderation] is a healthy indulgence

Red wine and sprouts or in fact most brassicas, beats any beer for characterfull  flatulance in  my experience.

Incidently if anyone wants a wine to go with curry this is it

No idea if you can get it in the UK, it was a random stop at a vinyard, and a little uncouth with any other food but against a curry it tastes like a fine wine. Not too flatulogenic either.

was hoping that a colleague would bring me a "local" bottle of spätburgunder on Friday, but instead had to rough it with a bottle of Saint Emilion grand cru tertre du moulin which was OK

Yum.

I left this breathing at room temperature for only 20 minutes or so, and it really brought a smile to my face at the first whiff. Good depth of flavours, 13%, £23 ish at Waitrose.

I've just realised I posted about this same wine back in February. I suppose that's that accepted risk with live-posting about alcohol consumption

Greco di Tufo Villa Altieri,2011 with some excellent sea food.

My last bottle of six purchased last year.

With a strange snappy kick that differs from all my previous supply,

maybe my taste buds in remission from the common cold:

A flavour not too unlike chough medicine.

Just the job imo

"Soft and full, with juicy red and black fruits in this classic combination of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A very easy style with an element of ripe Claret about it."

Very satisfying smooth easy going red which tastes far better than it’s bouquet would suggest it ought.

Imho this knocks the Concha y Toro Merlot off the top budget Chilean red wine list.

I decanted but don’t think it was necessary, nor a cork screw either.

What a bargain, very glad I bought a whole 12 bottle case of this one : )

Score 8/10

The penultimate bottle from my '2011' batch supply,

decanted at room temperature, rested for an hour,

and now going down nicely with a cheesy pasta dish.

Cheers me dears : )

Big mistake. Should've gone source first.

Tony you've excelled yourself. That's funnier than most jokes on the BJ thread.

Or perhaps, sauce first?

I was introduced to this wine by my good friend Peter (911gtr). It's a very smooth every day drinking  wine that's currently good value at £5.85 (The Wine Station O/L). Everyone we've served it to has remarked on it's mellow quality. Even Tony Lockhart enjoyed it when we were at Tonym's.

Thanks for reminding me about this wine Steve. Very nice indeed - that Peter chap's got excellent taste!
