NDX + NAS

Posted by: pz on 22 October 2012

Hi Mates!

I have a simple and maybe stupid question:

I intend to buy a NAS unit and would like to know that it is possible to

connect NAS straight to the NDX by a patch cable or I also need a switch

between them ?

Thx.

I have not yet heard a NAS that I would want to have in the listening room. Get a switch would be my advice, and put the NAS elsewhere.

To answer your question it is possible to use a crossover cable but then you will need to set IP addresses manually, unless you buy a NAS with a DHCP server built in; in which case get a switch.

I concur with Peter (for the most part).

My Synology 212J, with WD "green" drives, is actually pretty quiet.  That said, "pretty quiet" to one person is not to another.  And even though it's been living in my listening room for months now, I am in the process of sorting my home network cables so that I can move it to a different room.  Mostly I am tired of looking at it, as opposed to having a problem with any noise from it.

Yes, use a little switch; much easier.
