Hi
What can i use the digital inputs on the back of my streamer?
I use My UnitiServer via ethernet. And also music on NAS via ethernet.
So Is there a external HD on the market wich will work with digital connections?
By the way,,,, i as other on this forum can not get my HighRes flac files from my
Synology played as HighRes,, it converts in to standard wav.

Hi Magnus,
I am not sure there exist a NAS/Ext HD that can directly be hooked up onto the ND5XS. The digital inputs on the ND5XS are meant for connection to a DVD player, TV Settop Box, CD PLayer or for example Apple TV. I use the majority of them and make use of the very good DAC section of the ND5XS.
Regarding your question on HiRes, what UpnP server do you use ? Twonky, Assett or somethin else ?

Hi Iver
Thanx for a rapid awnser.
regarding UpnP i use the one that is available on the Synology.... there is one called media server and one called audio station.
Regarding the digital inputs,,, i got rid of the cd player since i i now rip everything via US so i have no use for it. And i dont see the point why i should take tvsound via the streamer.
kind regards
Magnus

Hi Magnus,
The DAC section in the ND5XS is very good. As such it is usefull for digital sources like a TV settop box, an Apple Airport Express or any other digital sources that typically lack good digital to anlogue conversion. On top, working this way allows you to control a lot of those sources via an iPad using nStream. For example, if I compare the sound of my in-built TV speakers to the sound delivered through the Naim, the difference is more than huge. Anyway, it is up to you whether you want to use that option.
Your issue with the HighRes files intrigues me. The only thing I can think of for the moment, i that your UpnP server is set in such a way it converts the music to 44khz/16bit wav. WHat setup are you exactly using ?? You have a Synology NAS and a UnityServe I understand ? Is the US connected to the ND5XS via Ethernet or directly via an optical interconnect ? Normally the US indeed rips onto wav 44khz/16bit. Where did you get the high res music from. Did you buy it and exactly what format is it ?
Cheers,
Iver

Hi Iver
All 3 are connected via ethernet through a router.
And i have looked everywhere on all possible settings on the synology setup, and there is nothing about converting files.
I buy Hires via HD-Tracks and they are 24bits from 96 to 172 kHz.
But if i via the Nstream (on Ipad) go through the US to the folder on the SynologyNAS where the highres are located the are played as highres. It is when Nstream goes directly to the nAS as the mysterius converting to wav takes place.
