How you 'switch off' your Naim

Posted by: dariushifi on 24 October 2012

Hello once again.

Being a newbie is not easy in every situation, so I would like to ask  Naim owners few questions.

  1)  I wonder how you ‘switch’ off your Naim ,Qute in particular or what is the best way to keep your Qute off on daily basis once you not listening?

  2)  How is your signal ground switch set up. Chassis or floating?

At the moment I mute it. However what brought me a little doubt is when I mute , I still can hear a little noise like ‘ppsssssssss’ from my speakers.  I have tried Chassis and floating, still hear the noise.

Would power line help with this issue or is it normal?

Thank  you for your advice.

The hissing is normal and should not change with a Powerline.

I believe that only the preamp output is muted, so you will still get the normal faint hiss from the power amp to the loudspeakers. I have the Superuniti and note that the manual says that it is not intended to be switched off routinely. I'm thinking of getting a UQ and had assumed that the same principle applied, but maybe it doesn't.

i think its best to keep it on all the time, that way your device stays "warm" for instant operation. I only switch my SuperUniti off when i leave for holiday.

Thank you guys, for your input.

What about the signal ground switch? Has anybody experimented with it and what are your findings?

I could not notice any difference between the two.

If you are using the Qute as an all-in-one player it should be on chassis. You would only set it to floating if you were using the Qute in a complex multi-box system which also had another grounded source (like a Naim CD player).

Thanks Ben G.

Has anyone tried Uniqute with powerline or power suply? What were your findings?
